Topic: Thanksgiving and Praise [Open Heavens for Teens 6 July 2019]

Memorise: “I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.” – Psalms 9:1

Read: Psalms 147:1-15

1 Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

2 The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.

3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

6 The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.

7 Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:

8 Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.

9 He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.

10 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.

11 The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

12 Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.

13 For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee.

14 He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

15 He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.

Bible In One Year: Job 33-34, Acts 13:24-52

MESSAGE:

God wants us to give thanks unto Him at all times. When you cultivate a thankful habit, you will experience God’s goodness towards you. As teenagers, when you are given gifts by your parents, you become happy and grateful. You want to do better than what you did that made them buy that wonderful gift for you. This is how it is with God. He wants you to be happy and grateful for everything He does for you and He wants your heart to be filled with thanksgiving and praise.

This is why when they tell you to praise God and dance to Him, you shouldn’t feel to bug to do it. When you do it wholeheartedly, it shows that you appreciate what God has done for you, what He is still doing for you and what He will do for you.

Key Point:
Praise God for what you have today will make Him do more for you.

Hymn 8:

  1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
    In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
    Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of days,
    Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
  2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
    Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
    Thy justice like mountains high soaring above,
    Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
  3. To all life thou givest to both great and small;
    In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
    We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
    And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.
  4. Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light,
    Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
    All laud we would render; o help us to see;
    ‘Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee.
  5. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
    In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
    Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of days,
    Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
