Topic — Friends: How Trustworthy [Open Heavens for Teens 8 June 2019]

Memorise: “Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.” – Micah 7:5

Read: Micah 7:2-7

2 The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.

3 That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.

4 The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity.

5 Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.

6 For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.

7 Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

Bible In One Year: 2 Chronicles 26-28, John 17

MESSAGE:

Expectations are usually disappointed when placed on friends. The truth is that the individuals most people take as friends are not truly their friends. True friends will express love that is stronger that of blood brothers (Proverbs 18:24). Also, a true friend loves at all times (Proverbs 17:17) and has the best interest of the other person at heart. David and Jonathan were true friends and they were ready to do anything to protect their friendship. You should be wise enough to know which of your friends is a true friend and one you can trust. It is very disastrous for you to tell your secrets and plans to people you think are your friends but are actually not. Most importantly, Jesus is the truest friend anyone can ever have; He is always faithful and will never disappoint you. Make Him your friend today.

Key Point:
If you have all Tue friends in the world but you do not have Jesus Christ as your friend, you will never experience what true friendship is.

Hymn 10:

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
    All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
    O what peace we often forfeit,
    O what needless pain we bear,
    All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged;
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    Can we find a Friend so faithful?
    Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
    Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge,
    Take it to the Lord in prayer.
    Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
    Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
    You wilt find a solace there.
