BONDAGE OF LIARS

MEMORY VERSE: “And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you; when ye dwell among us? Now therefore ye are cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from being bondmen, and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God” (JOSHUA 9:22, 23).

BIBLE TEXT: JOSHUA 9:18-23

Someone said, “Deception may give us what we want but will take it away at last.” The alliance between the Gibeonites and the children of Israel was based on falsehood. The blatant lies of the Gibeonites cannot be justified because God is able to spare their lives like He saved Rahab, the harlot and her household in Jericho. The Gibeonites became perpetual slaves. For every so-called ‘good reason’ there is to tell a lie, there is a better reason to tell the truth. We must not do evil that good may come. One lie is an inlet to another because the way of the sin of lying is down-hill.

April 1, is a “world lying day” set aside for playing pranks, lying and deception. It may be accepted by the world but it is condemned by the Lord. “As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death, So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?” Do not join the fools to mark ‘April fool day.’ Lies engender bondage. Confess your lies and make necessary restitutions.

PRAYER: No justifiable reason for lying.

CHALLENGE: Lord, help me to remain truthful.
