STUDY THE SCRIPTURES – 1

TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 3:15-17

MEMORY VERSE: “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 TIMOTHY 3:15).

John Quincy Adams, the sixth POTUS said this about studying the Scriptures, “So strong is my belief that, when duly read and meditated on, it is of all books in the world, that which contributes most to making men good, wise and happy.”

The implication of this is that, studying the Scriptures makes one wise (unto salvation), good (turning away from evil) and happy (the assurance of one being free from sin with the heavenly hope). Why not then study the Scripture and obey it? Timothy was able to get saved from sin through his studying of the Scriptures.

This was made possible through his upbringing by his grandmother, Lois, and his mother, Eunice, who obtained the “unfeigned faith” before him (2 Timothy 1:5). Having obtained salvation through the knowledge of God’s word, one must still study it for further benefits:

(1) Spiritual growth.

(2) Spiritual guidance.

(3) Acquiring doctrinal truths for the work of the ministry.

(4) Avoiding being tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine, and

(5) Building of faith.

Beloved, do you truly study the Scriptures?

QUOTE: Do you truly study the Scriptures?

CHALLENGE: Study the Scriptures to be approved unto God.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, teach me to also rightly divide the word of truth
