SUPPORT THE WEAK

MEMORY VERSE: “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).

TEXT: ACTS 20:34-38

James Dobson stated, “It isn’t important that I be remembered. It’s important that when I stand before the Lord, he says, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’ I want to finish strong.” Under the leadership of Moses, Joshua discharged his duties so faithfully that Moses “laid his hands upon him” and God filled him with His Spirit of wisdom. Consequently, when he assumed the mantle of leadership after Moses, he prospered in ministry. His leadership was so unique that the people of Israel were obedient to him.

Dear Christian friend, the leaders of tomorrow in any field begin preparation today as diligent and faithful servants. That was the secret ingredient in the success story of Joseph, Joshua and Samuel. They all shone in character, learning and diligence, as they rendered their services. You can also serve in any department in your school or Church. Identifying our specific ministry on conversion is important; more important, however, is our ability to stay humble and faithful that we may be appropriately rewarded at the end. You can become another Joshua if you wish.Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Somewhere along the way, we must learn that there is nothing greater than to do something for others.” We live in a world of “survival of the fittest” – a world where the strong live at the expense of the weak. Many people live today as if we are still in the era where the Nazi “law” viewed some fellow humans as weak and undesirable.

We must treat the weak in our society kindly, and not wickedly. With our sincere love of the Scriptures, we should act beyond mere tolerance for the weak. But who are the weak in our society today? They include: the fatherless, who have never known fatherly love; foster children, who bounce from home to home without care; prisoners, who are hardly visited by anybody; the unborn, whose body parts as aborted babies are sometimes trafficked by heartless people; and the spiritually helpless, who are likely to draw back to perdition. The Scripture commands us to support them as a mark of our real love, humility and faith in God.

QUOTE: Treat the weak in our society kindly.

PRAYER: Precious Lord, help me to be more compassionate.

CHALLENGE: Help the poor and needy around you, if you can
