TAKE A BREAK

MEMORY VERSE: “Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. And they departed into a desert place by ship privately” (MARK 6:31, 32).

TEXT: MARK 6:30-32.

The adage, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,” is important for everyone. The student, teacher, church minister, office and factory worker, all need rest after hours of work. Indeed, work without commensurate rest can lead to stress and depression. Hence Ruth Bell Graham said, “When we are worn-out or exhausted, or at the end of our physical resources, Satan tries to persuade us that we have a spiritual problem. In reality our problem may be a physical one. And maybe like Elijah, we need to get some rest.” Eight hours of work daily without recreation and rest is harmful to the body and mind. We must take a break, as God did after His six-day creation week (Genesis1:31).

Following His numerous evangelistic activities, Jesus planned for a break for Himself and His disciples. Taking a break ensures sustainable rest and renewal (Mark 6:31, 32). Rest from studies or any work, will make you fresh in your body, mind and spirit to perform better. You can rest by sleeping or staying quiet listening to godly music.

QUOTE: All need rest after hours of work

CHALLENGE: Rest makes you fresh in body, mind and spirit.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

O God, constantly renew me for service, in Jesus’ name.
