DOUBTING THOMAS
MEMORY VERSE: “The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe” (JOHN 20:25).
On July 15, Charles Blondin walked backward across the tightrope over the Niagara Falls and returned pushing a wheelbarrow. After pushing a wheelbarrow across while blindfolded, Blondin asked for some audience participation. He had proven that he could walk across with a wheel barrow, and there was no doubt about that.
He asked his audience, “Do you believe I can carry a person across in this wheelbarrow?” Of course the crowd shouted that, “Yes,” they believed. Then Blondin posed the question – “Who will get in the wheelbarrow?” None did. The crowd had watched his daring feats. They said they believed, but their actions proved they truly did not.
The maxim “seeing is believing” is diametrically opposed to faith. Faith is believing before seeing. Thomas missed the blessedness of believing the good news of the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus later declared, “blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”
Faith in God brings indescribable blessings. Doubters are losers. If God says it, that settles it because God cannot lie. Faith sees the invisible, believes the impossible and receives the incredible.
QUOTE: Doubters are losers.
CHALLENGE: God can never lie. Believe His word.
PRAYER: Father, deliver me from a doubtful spirit
