ELIJAH’S KIND OF EXPLOITS

MEMORY VERSE: “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months” (James 5:17).

TEXT: JAMES 5:16-18

If you think our days are dark and evil, Elijah lived in a darker and more evil day. The evil Queen Jezebel had polluted the land with her wickedness, whoredom and witchcraft. Gross darkness covered the land as water covers the sea. Yet, out of obscurity, Elijah came on stage and had a most remarkable ministry. He was extraordinary in his ministry of uncompromising stand for God, bold declaration of the word, with miracles, signs and wonders by God’s power, and faith and faithful commitment to promoting the glory of God.

Above all, he was remarkable in his ministry of prayer. He prayed and locked the heavens. He prayed, and rain fell down. He prayed, and fire came down. He prayed, and men fell down. He prayed, and the worship of Baal went down.

According to Leonard Ravenhill, instead of asking, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” we should be asking, “Where are the Elijahs of God?” Where are the boys and girls who will distinguish themselves to confront the mountain of challenges bedeviling the world in our days? We need Elijah’s kind of exploits today.

QUOTE: He prayed, and the rain fell down.

PRAYER: Lord, send another Elijah to bring the fire down.

CHALLENGE: Where are the Elijahs of God?
