SUMMARY OF LESSON 46-50
LESSON FORTY SIX (46)
TOPIC: SUPPORT MISSION

BIBLE TEXT: Mark 16:15
[15]And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

MEMORY VERSE: Mark 16:15 “And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature”.

LESSON AIM: To encourage the teens to support the mission work.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Mission, the heartbeat of Christ must be a priority for every believer.

INTRODUCTION: Mission is an important assignment given to a person or group of people, typically involving relocation. Christian missions involve sending individuals and groups, called missionaries, across boundaries, most commonly geographical boundaries, to carry on evangelism or other
activities, such as educational or hospital work, A Christian mission is an organized effort to spread Christianity to new converts. Christan missionaries were the ones that took the gospel to countries of the world.

STUDY GUIDE:
Why Should We Support Missions?
• We were all commanded to preach the gospel, thus by supporting them, we become part of the commission – Rom 10:14-15
• Laborers are few – Matt 9:37-38
• Missionaries depend on churches – Phil 4:10-18. Fulltime missionaries depend on prayer, encouragement and financial support
to meet spiritual, emotional and physical needs, so that they can give themselves fully to the work of spreading the gospel.
• We are blessed for a reason – Luke 12:48
• There is reward for supporting missionaries – Heb 6:10
• So that God’s kingdom can be established on earth.

What Kind Of Support Can We Give?
• Prayers.
• Money.
• Material things.
• We can visit them on the field.

DISCUSSION: Discuss your mission support experience if any. Otherwise discuss how you hope to take part.

INVITATION/ APPLICATION: It is good for us to remember that God has chosen us to do the work of missions through the financial support of faithful saints. When God sent His Son to do the work of missions on the earth, He chose to
provide for Him through the faithful financial support of others. Get actively involved in supporting mission work today.

CONCLUSION: The Bible teaches us that we are all called to be missionaries whether we serve in missions at home or abroad. We all are called to go throughout the world and make disciples (Matt 28:19). However, many have
wrong perspectives on supporting missions. Some may feel like they are not called to support missions. Some feel like giving to missions is a burden. Some feel ashamed about raising funds for missions, and some will not consider going simply because they lack finances. All of these are wrong perspectives on missions that hinder God’s great work. As we look at Paul’s final words to
the Philippians in chapter 4, we learn a great deal about a proper perspective on supporting missions as he speaks about how they supported him in the past and also while imprisoned in Rome.

LESSON FORTY SEVEN (47)
TOPIC: GIVE TO THE NEEDY

BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 25:34-40
[34]Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
[35]for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
[36]I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
[37]“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?
[38]When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?
[39]Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
[40]And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs19:17 “He that hath
pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again”

LESSON AIM: To teach the teens that it is very necessary to give to the poor and those in need.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Giving to the needy attracts divine blessings.

INTRODUCTION: Deut. 15:11 says “For there will never cease to be poor in the land”. This means that we will always have people around us who are in need of one thing or the other. God does not expect you to close your eyes to the needs of someone beside you. You must rise up and do something, especially if it lies within your power to do so. The act of giving should be a part of us as believers. Because we will be just like our Father when we do
what He does. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave….

STUDY GUIDE
A. What is giving? Giving is the ability to part with something in order to bless someone or to contribute towards something. It also involves providing love or other emotional support to people. Acts 20:35 says”It is more blessed to give than to receive”

B. Who is a needy person? This is someone that requires something because it is essential or very important rather than just desirable.

C. What can someone need: Food, shelter, money, care, attention, love, comfort, healing, encouragement, smiles, push, the truth etc.

D. Giving that glorifies God:

  1. Giving that meets a need, in the church, in your neighbourhood or community, of a friend etc- Prov 19:17
  2. Giving to missionaries.
  3. Giving that is done in love.
  4. Giving that is done voluntarily and with the right motive – 2 Cor 9:7
  5. Heartfelt giving – James 1:27

E. Giving that does not glorify God:

  1. Giving that is done because of what you will get in return – Luke 14:12-14
  2. Giving that is done with a competitive heart.
    Reluctant giving-2 Cor 9:7
  3. Giving to impress people rather than God – Matt 6:2-3.
  4. Giving to a lazy person – 2 Thes 3:10

DISCUSSION: You can give without loving but you cannot love without giving. Discuss.

INVITATION/APPLICATION: When we are involved in the lives of people around us by giving to them rather than taking from them, we discover it makes life to be more interesting, we get connected to each other and the
joy of the Lord fills our hearts.

CONCLUSION: How can we say we love God and we see ourfellow brethren in need and we do not help? This is not love and it doesn’t bring glory to God. 1 John 3:17 says” if anyone has material possessions and sees a brother
or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person.

LESSON FORTY EIGHT (48)
TOPIC: EMPATHY

BIBLE TEXT: Luke 7:11-16
[11]Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd.
[12]And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.
[13]When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”
[14]Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”
[15]So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.
[16]Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited His people.”

MEMORY VERSE: “Luke 7:13 And when the Lord saw her he had compassion on her and said unto her, Weep not”.

SONG FOR TODAY: I need you to survive
(Hezekiah Was)

LESSON AIM: Teach the teens to put themselves in another person’s shoes.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Being emphatic is not a sign of weakness or naivety. It is a sign that God lives in your heart.

INTRODUCTION: Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. That is, the capacity to place oneself in another’s position. Empathy is a skill that can be learned by everybody with the help of the Holy Spirit. God is the very best at empathy – Matt 9:36, Ps 103:14, Ps 56:8,1 Peter 5:7

STUDY GUIDE:
A. Why must you show empathy?

  1. To show love – 2 Cor. 13:4
  2. To exemplify compassion as Jesus did – Heb 4:15
  3. It is a love language that everyone understands, both believers and unbelievers – Ps. 145:8-9
  4. People would also be there for you when you’re in pain – Col 3:12, Gal.6:2

  7. It gives people opportunity to be strong emotionally and to develop confidence.
  8. Allows people to build social connections with others.
  9. It helps you to regulate your own emotions and maintain relationships.

B. How to learn empathy:
a. Be sensitive: be able to recognize signs of distress shown by people. This can be through facial expressions, postures, sighs, tone of voice, the content of what they say and their apparent situation.
b. Imagine yourself in that situation, how would you want people to react and help you?
c. Think of possible solutions and gently present it to the person.
d. Practice, practice and practice showing empathy.

Examples where empathy was shown in the Bible:

  1. The death of Lazarus – John 11: 30-35
  2. Elijah and the widow of Zarephath -1 Kings 17:7-16
  3. The Good Samaritan – Luke 10: 25-37
  4. Paul and Eutychus – Acts.20:7-12
  5. Widow of Nain – Luke 7:11-17

Mention other examples of empathy.

DISCUSSION: Discuss the differences between sympathy and empathy.

INVITATION/APPLICATION: God wants us to judge less, listen more and be ready to share people’s pain.

CONCLUSION: We conclude with the song below;

SONG
I pray for you, you pray me
I love you; I need you to survive
I won’t harm you, with words from my mouth
I love you; l need you to survive
It is His will, that every need will be supplied
You are important to me;I need you to survive

BIBLE TEXT: John 14:1-4
[1]Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
[2]In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
[3]And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
[4]And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

MEMORY VERSE: Matt 24:44 “Therefore, be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh”.

HYMN FOR TODAY:
My Hope is Built on Nothing Less. Hymn 474

LESSON AIM: To prepare the teens to be ready for the coming of the Lord.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Jesus is coming back!

INTRODUCTION: After the resurrection of Jesus, He asked His disciples to meet Him in Galilee. And as He was talking with them, He was lifted up into heaven. While the people were watching amazingly, two angels appeared to them and said “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in
like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:9-11
Jesus had earlier made this same promise to His disciples in John 14:3. And since that time, believers have looked forward to the Second Coming of
Jesus Christ. This is also referred to as the rapture. Today we are encouraging ourselves to be ready to go with Jesus whenever He comes.

STUDY GUIDE:

The dead that died in the Lord -1 Cor 15:51-54
Where will He take them to?
  • To a place He has prepared for us in heaven -John 14:3

ACTIVITY: Signs of His coming: Write out as many signs as you can find in Matt 24. Check how many have been fulfilled and judge for yourself if His coming is near or not.

INVITATION/APPLICATION: Col 3:4 says “When Christ, who is in your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory”. Be encouraged to live to please God because there is a glory ahead being prepared by God. And you won’t want to miss it. Aim to please God always and not men – 1 Thess 2:4; Acts 5:29.

CONCLUSION: Jesus has gone to prepare a place for me and you. Will you be ready when the Lord shall come?

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Corinthians 9:25-26
[25]And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
[26]I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:q

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Corinthians 9:25 “And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible”.

HYMN FOR TODAY:

LESSON AIM: To teach the teens to strive to get the crowns in heaven.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Run your race to win the crown.

INTRODUCTION: A crown is a form of adornment that is wore on the head.
It symbolizes victory, triumph, honour, etc. It is so amazing to know that when we get to heaven we are going to be decorated with different crowns. How glorious that will be! Alas! This is the race of every believer. That a day would come when we stand before our maker, He looks at you and says “Welcome Home Good Soldier”. At that moment, that moment in eternity, it becomes clear that we lived to fulfil God’s plan on earth. Oh, what a day that would be! Do you want a crown on that day? There would be no shortages, everyone deserving would receive it.

anxiously wait and look forward to the day when He will return for His saints. who have lived a good and righteous life for God while
living down here on earth – 2 Tim 4:8

E. Crown of glory: This is the crown that will be given to the ministers who faithfully feed the flock of God. God can use you to teach and
shepherd others – 1 Peter 5:1-4

HOW CAN WE GET THESE CROWNS?
A. Matthew 6:19-20 – We are to lay up ourselves treasures in heaven that cannot be corrupted.
B. Romans 8:18 – To endure suffering of this present time because they cannot be compared with the glory await us.
C. James 1:12 – By endure temptation.
D. Hebrews 12:2 – By looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith
.
DISCUSSION: Discuss practical steps to inherit crowns.

INVITATION/APPLICATION: The crown is one thing that every believer should covet. Make a decision to win crowns today. Which of the crowns do you want and why? Are you looking forward to the day you will be decorated by the hosts of heaven?

CONCLUSION: Eternity is our hope as believers. How do you want to appear before the Father? Empty handed or you want Him to smile when He sees you. Make a choice today!
