MEMORY VERSE: “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.” – 1 Peter 2:6

BIBLE TEXT: Ephesians 2:20-22 (KJV)

20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Simply put, a cornerstone is that capstone which gives firmness to a building or house. Figuratively, that which is prominent, fundamental, noteworthy or central. On this note, as a Christian, Jesus Christ should be our Chief cornerstone in our families and relationships. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit speaks expressly in Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

LEADERS DIARY:

LESSON AIM: To make all and sundry understand that Christ is the Chief cornerstone that cannot fail if we allow Him into our lives.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:
i. Explain what and who is the Chief cornerstone.
ii. And the benefits of making Him your chief cornerstone.

TEXT REVIEW: Ephesians 2:20-22

i. Jesus Christ is the Chief cornerstone.
ii. All buildings (i.e.) the gospel must fitly frame on Him.
iii. Anything else will not stand the test of time.

TEACHING METHOD: The leader should use the discussion method.

TIME MANAGEMENT: Share the teaching time using the suggested time schedule.

LESSON OUTLINES: There are three outlines:

A: DANGERS OF NOT MAKING GOD THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE IN YOUR FAMILY / RELATIONSHIP:

  1. Errors and mistakes. – Joshua 9:14
  2. Wastefulness. – (The prodigal son in Luke 15:11-19)
  3. Struggles in life.
  4. Unfruitfulness or fruitless efforts.
  5. Untimely death – (the rich fool in Luke 12:16-20)

B: BENEFITS OF MAKING GOD YOUR CHIEF CORNERSTONE:

  1. Fruitfulness. – Genesis 1:28
  2. A life of peace and harmony. – John 14:27
  3. Answers to prayers. – 2 Chronicles 7:14

C: THOSE IN THE BIBLE THAT MADE GOD THEIR CHIEF CORNERSTONE:

1 In family (David. – 1 Samuel 30:1-8).
2 In relationship (Abraham’s Chief servant. – Genesis 24:2-15).

ACTIVITY: Why must we make Christ our Chief cornerstone?

SUMMARY: The foundation of the Lord is still standing sure.

CONCLUSION: Every decision of life without God will lead to frustration and regret. There is a popular saying that ‘HAD I KNOWN, IS THE LAST STATEMENT OF A FOOL’. So, for us not to be seen or called fools, wisdom demands that we must make God the Chief cornerstone on everything of our life endeavour.
