MEMORY VERSE: As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. – Proverbs 26:11

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Peter 2:20-22 (KJV)

20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

LESSON INTRODUCTION:
In this teaching we shall explain the following three terms:
a. “Do Not” – as used here is a command of a prohibition. Do not do such thing.
b. “Return” – means to go back; to come/take back to old place or to old thing.
c. “Vomit” – is any stomach content disgorged through the mouth.

So literally returning to ones vomit is simple going back or taking back that which was once rejected, abandoned and forsaken openly and willingly. Spiritually, vomit in all forms of ungodliness, sins, all ungodly behaviour or activities. Do not return to your vomit to a Christian means: do not go back to your old sinful life.
