TODAY’S LESSON
A. MEMORY VERSE: 2 TIMOTHY 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”
B. BIBLE TEXT: HEBREW 12:1-3
- Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
- Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
C. LESSON INTRODUCTION: It is one thing to start a race and it is another thing to finish it. While it is a great thing to finish the race, it is glorious to finish with joy. It is also exciting and relatively easy to get married, staying in the marriage through the struggles, adjustments and trials is not always an easy (Matthew 10:22). God wants us to be faithful unto the very end.

LESSON OUTLINE:
SOME BIBLE CHARACTERS WHO FINISHED POORLY:
- King Solomon started his reign in wholehearted devotion to God, but the latter part of his life was marked by compromise and disobedience.1Kings 11:6-11.
- King Joash, ungrateful leader started well but ended poorly. 2King 12:17-21
- Eli, towards the end of his life compromised and wouldn’t correct his children. 1Samuel 2:12-36
- Gideon won a great battle for God, towards the end of his life, he compromised for money and power and he was rejected. Judges 8:22-28
- King Saul started well as God chosen King for His people until disobedience robbed him of his crown. 1Samuel 15:1-11
To finish the race well means to walk with God personally to the end of our lives, to make contributions to God’s work with our time, talents and treasures, and to leave a heritage and children who will continue the work of God.
SOME BIBLE CHARACTERS WHO FINISHED WELL:
- Job: He went through every type of personal suffering possible and even in all this suffering, Job said nothing against God. Job 2:9-10.
- Joshua: He made everyone to serve the Lord all his days. Joshua 24:29-31. He testified in Joshua 24:15 that “but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
- Daniel: He purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the royal food and wine in Daniel 1:8. He was thrown into the lion’s den because he continued to pray to his God against the express command of the King in Daniel 6 and God sent His angel to shut the mouths of the lions.
- Paul: With all his trials and sufferings, at the end of his life, he said “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept my faith: Henceforth there is laid for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” 2Timothy 4:7-8.
ACTIVITY: What are steps to take to finish?
SUMMARY: You will finish well.
CONCLUSION: For the wise men, the race started when they saw the star but for the rest of us, it starts we surrendered our lives to Jesus. This race is a race that will be run for a life time with his finishing line in Heaven. It is great to start the race but the reward comes from finishing strong. The race you have started on earth the day you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, may you finish it in Heaven in Jesus Name.
