LESSON FOUR (04)
TOPIC: LIFE WITHOUT CHRIST IS VANITY.
BIBLE PASSAGE: Ecclesiastes 2:1-11, 24-26

MEMORY VERSE: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”. Mark 8:36.

INTRODUCTION: The book of Ecclesiastes is widely accepted to have been written by King Solomon Ecclesiastes 1:1, the King that experienced it all. His wealth and royal opulence was unrivaled 2 Chronicles 9:22, His passion for women was legendary with a record of seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines 1 Kings 11:1-3. Above all, God endowed him with rare wisdom such that other Kings and Queens travelled long distances to learn from him 2 Chronicles 9:6, 23. He rightly observed that “all is vanity” Ecclesiastes 1:2, 12:8.
However, He concluded by admonishing that man should “…. Fear God, keeping His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecclesiastes 12:13. Anything that excludes God is vanity. All the world has to offer without Christ is an empty life. Matthew 6:33 says “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”. 2 Chronicles 8:22 – wealth, wisdom..etc.

LESSON OUTLINES

LESSON LEARNT FROM LUKE 5:1-11 – A NIGHT OF FAILURE WITHOUT JESUS

  1. Working without Jesus brings failure, disappointment and discouragement. Luke 5:4-5. Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”. We should have faith that He can do all things. Luke 5:5, Colossians 1:16-17.
  2. We should be willing to forsake all things for Him (Submission). Luke 5:11, Luke 14:13.
  3. A good Shepherd leads, guides and protects his sheep. When we follow Him completely, He will lead us as the good Shepherd. John 10:27-29.

SUMMARY: There is a great gain to have Christ.

CONCLUSION: In our materialistic world, we spend our lifetime pursuing the transient and ephemeral things of life which only gives temporary happiness, they don’t give genuine peace, can crumble and fade-off at any time. 1 Peter 1:24. Without Christ, you are lost forever, your material opulence will be of no benefit to you, it will not save you. Mark 8:36-37 “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

LESSON FIVE (05)
TOPIC: BEWARE OF UNGODLY OPPORTUNITIES.
BIBLE PASSAGE: Isaiah 1:19-20; James 4:4; Galatians 5:16

MEMORY VERSE: “Wealth [gotten] by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase”. Proverbs 13:11

INTRODUCTION:
There is a difference between godly and ungodly opportunities. Any opportunity gotten without Heaven’s approval through the Word of God is nothing but an ungodly opportunity. Ability to say no to ungodly opportunities places one on the side of God who rewards such loyalty. Sometimes, many ungodly opportunities appear as Heaven’s sent, but we need to be very sensitive and always be at alert to discern those opportunities that are not godly. Don’t sleep with your boss for that job or promotion. Don’t offer bribe to get that contract. Don’t pay a third party to sit for your child in exams.

LESSON OUTLINES

A. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF UNGODLY OPPORTUNITIES

  1. Joseph was seduced on daily basis by his master’s wife but he refused to sleep with her. Genesis 39:7-10. God gave him great favour before King Pharaoh.
  2. Eve was lured by the serpent (the devil) to eat from the fruit of the tree forbidden forbidden by God. Genesis 3:1-6. She ate and offered Adam who also ate. Genesis 3:6. God pronounced judgement upon them and drove them out of the garden of Eden.
  3. Job was lured by the devil using the wife who told him “to curse him and die” Job 2:9-10 but he refused and at the end of it all, God gave double fold restoration of everything he has lost.
  4. Gehazi saw an ungodly opportunity to collect the gifts which Naaman brought for Elisha but was turned down. 2 Kings 5:20-24. He ended up as a leper. 2 Kings 5:25-27.

    B. CONSEQUENCES OF UNGODLY OPPORTUNITIES
  5. Calamity. 2 Samuel 11:1-5,9-12.
  6. Their years are shortened. Proverbs 10:27, Psalms 55:23.
  7. Pronouncement of judgement. Genesis 3:14-19
  8. Sickness and disease. James 5:1-3.
  9. Their descendants may be affected too. 2 Kings 5:27.
  10. Shame. Jeremiah 17:11, Isaiah 47:1 – 5.
  11. Eternal damnation in hell. Luke 16:19-31.

SUMMARY: Be sensitive in all the opportunities before you and take the ones that are Godly.

CONCLUSION: As believers, we must not value earthly possession more than our salvation. Remember that the devil is looking for who to devour.
1 Peter 5:8, 1 Corinthians 10 :12 “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall”. Work out your salvation with fear and trembly Philippians 2:12.

LESSON SIX (06)
TOPIC: WHENEVER GOD SPEAKS, IT IS DONE.
BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 1:3-24, Isaiah 55:11

MEMORY VERSE: For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
Psalms 33:9.

INTRODUCTION:
Speaking is the first active verb of the universe. Speaking is the tool used by God in creating the universe. When he speaks, nothing remains the same. At the beginning, God spoke and the universe was created out of nothing. The universe didn’t just create itself, it was created by the Word of God, Psalms 33:9. In Genesis 1:3, God said “Let there be light” and there was light. He followed a pattern when he created the earth: He spoke, and it was so. God doesn’t make suggestions, He speaks with the full authority and what he has said will come to fruition. His Words come with power and Holy Spirit 1 Thessalonians 1:5, John 6:63.

LESSON OUTLINES:
There are two outlines.

A. SOME BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF WHEN GOD SPEAKS – OLD TESTAMENT

  1. The voice of God is like thunder. 2 Samuel 22:14, Psalms 104:7
  2. He spoke to Adam and Eve in the Garden. Genesis 2:16-18; 3:8, 13-14.
  3. Jacob in Genesis 28:13-15; 35:1, 9-12
  4. He spoke to Moses. Exodus 19:18-20.
  5. David in 1 Samuel 23:2 and 4; 30:8, 2 Samuel 2:1; 5:19, 23-24.
  6. Solomon in 1 Kings 3:5-15
  7. Elijah in 1 Kings 19:9-18
  8. Job and his friends in Job 38:1-42:6
  9. Hosea in Hosea 1:2-5.
  10. Jonah in Jonah 1:1-2; 3:1-2; 4:4, 9-11.
  11. Zechariah in Zechariah 1:1-17.

    B. IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
  12. He spoke to Jesus in Luke 3:21-22, John 12:27-29
  13. He spoke to Saul on his way to Damascus in Acts 9:3-4, to Paul in Acts 18:9-10. He also spoke to him in the night in a vision not to be afraid in Acts 10:13-15, 2 Peter 1:16-18,21.

SUMMARY: The Word of God cannot fail.

CONCLUSION: By the Word of the Lord were the heavens made, and all the hosts of them by the breath of His mouth Psalms 33:6. He created all things by His Word, He spoke it and it was done Psalms 148:5, Hebrews 11:3. We can only please God when He speaks and we obey it.

INTRODUCTION: To forgive means to let go of an offence, to pardon, to waive any negative feeling or desire for punishment, to acquit the accused of a crime and Set him/her at liberty without pressing any claim Matthew 18:25-27. Living a forgiven is God’s expectation of all His children so as to receive forgiveness from Him. We all need to regularly ask God in prayer to give us the spirit of forgiveness.

LESSON OUTLINES:
WHY SHOULD WE FORGIVE ONE ANOTHER?
WE SHOULD FORGIVE BECAUSE:

  1. Forgiveness is a condition for us to make Heaven. Hebrews 12:14.
  2. Forgiveness is a command from God. Luke 17:3-4.
  3. God defends those who forgive. Romans 12:19.
  4. Unforgiving attitude hinders answers prayer.Matthew 5:24, James 5:16.
  5. Unforgiving attitude leads to bitterness of heart and in turn results in ill health. Proverbs 17:22.
  6. Unforgiving attitude opens the door to demonic attack. 1 Samuel 18:8-11
  7. Unforgiving attitude prevents us from benefiting from the cleansing power of Jesus. 1 John 1:7-9.
SUMMARY: Forgive so that Your Heavenly Father will forgive you.

CONCLUSION: Do you still keep the record of wrongs done to to you in the black book of your mind? This can rob you of God’s presence and it is also capable of nullifying all your efforts towards making Heaven. There is need to forgive and release those you have vowed not to forgive so that you can make Heaven at last.

LESSON: EIGHT (08)
TOPIC: JOB DID NOT COMMIT SUICIDE, WHY WOULD YOU?
BIBLE PASSAGE: Mathew 27:3-5; Job 14:7

MEMORY VERSE: “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment”. Matthew 5:21

INTRODUCTION: Suicide is the act of killing oneself intentionally. The Bible views suicide as equal to murder because it is considered self-murder. Exodus 20:13 says “Thou shalt not kill.” Self murder then is obviously forbidden by God. Don’t yield to Satan out of sheer despair, don’t let him get you into a guilt trap where he can persuade you that you are so unworthy, that suicide is all you deserve. You were made by God. You are not on your own. It is not your life, so don’t take it.
JOB HELD UNTO GOD DESPITE THESE AFFLICTIONS
Job 1:3, 14-17. Job lost all his possessions same day
Job 1:2, 18-19. Job lost his seven sons and three daughters in a building collapse.
Despite all these, Job did not commit suicide rather, he held unto God the more. Job 1:20-22, 2:9-10. And eventually, God restored all his possessions double folds and he had again seven sons and three daughters. Job 42:10-14

LESSON OUTLINES

A. BIBLE CHARACTERS THAT COMMITTED SUICIDE

  1. Abimelech in Judges 9:50-55
  2. King Saul in 1 Samuel 31:3-4
  3. Saul’s Armour-bearer in 1 Samuel 31:5
  4. Ahitophel in 2 Samuel 17:23
  5. Zimri in 1 Kings 16:15-20.
  6. Judas in Matthew 27:3-5

    B. CONSEQUENCES OF SUICIDE
  7. It is a sin against humanity and God and no sinner would go unpublished.
  8. It is a sin without remedy in that the victim loses his/her life.
  9. Suicide victims would be treated as murderers and sent to hell.
  10. The victims leave their loved ones in sorry and pain.
SUMMARY: Suicide is evil, don’t even think of it.

CONCLUSION: Job in Job13:15 says “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.” God, Your Maker, made you for a purpose. You may not feel like it right now, but you are His and He has given you the gift of life for a divine purpose.
Don’t reject the gift He has graciously given you. Instead, try to find out the reason He has given it to you.

LESSON NINE (09)
TOPIC: DO NOT CONSULT MEDIUMS, WITCHES AND FALSE PROPHETS
BIBLE PASSAGE: Deuteronomy 18:9-14, Leviticus 20:6

MEMORY VERSE: “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God” – Leviticus 19:31.

INTRODUCTION: God clearly warned in Deuteronomy 18:10-14 that it is contrary to His will that His children engage in any activity of the occult. The Bible teaches that spiritual guidance should be sought from God alone. We are to avoid anyone that practices divination or sorcery, interprets omen or anyone who is a medium because they have aligned themselves with supernatural forces that are not from God, but from Satan.

The final step in King Saul’s tragic downfall took place when he consulted a medium at Endor.
1 Chronicles 10:13-14 “13. So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, [even] against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking [counsel] of [one that had] a familiar spirit, to enquire [of it]; 14. And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.”

King Manasseh equally provoked God to anger by practicing sorcery and consulting mediums 2 Chronicles 33:6

LESSON OUTLINES

THE BIBLE VERSES THAT ARE GIVEN TO US AS WARNINGS ARE:

  1. About mediums and spiritualist: Leviticus 19:31; 20:6, Isaiah 8:19.
  2. About divination or sorcery: Leviticus 19:26, Ezekiel 13:20, Zechariah 10:2, Malachi 3:5
  3. About false prophets: Mathew 7:15; 24:11 and 24, Mark 13:22, 1 John 4:1
  4. About idol worship: Exodus 20:4-5, Deuteronomy 4:15-18.
  5. About witches and wizards: Exodus 22:18, Leviticus 20:27, Deuteronomy 18:10-12
SUMMARY: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:3.
    This is God’s instruction.

CONCLUSION: Every form of divination, whether from occult or natural objects, communication with the dead necromancy etc, are all against what the Bible says in Exodus 20:3-5a. God commands absolute loyalty and doesn’t tolerate any involvement with other gods or spirits. He said in Exodus 20:5 that He is a jealous God. Therefore, for the direction you need in your life, turn instead to Jesus Christ. God has assured his children in Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

LESSON TEN (10)
TOPIC: EVERY DAGON WORKING AGAINST YOUR LIFE MUST BOW
BIBLE TEXT: 1 Samuel 5:1-12

MEMORY VERSE: “And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.” 1 Samuel 5:4

INTRODUCTION: Dagon was the chief deity of the Philistines, he was the fish god represented as a half-man, half-fish creature. It was with great ceremony that the Philistines carried the arc of God into the temple of Dagon after defeating the Israelites in battle. They boasted as if they had defeated God Himself who was unable as they thought to protect His people not knowing that our God is a consuming fire and even a jealous God (Deuteronomy 4:24). What a shock, the idol (Dagon) of the Philistines fell twice before the Arc of God and was irreparable broken into pieces.

A: THE FOLLOWING DAGON (IDOLS) WORKING AGAINST YOUR LIFE MUST BOW:

  1. Pride. – Isaiah 2:11
  2. Lust. – Matthew 5:27-28
  3. Other gods. – Exodus 20:3-5a
  4. Bitterness and hatred. – Ephesians 4:26-27
  5. Self. – Placing what you want ahead of what God wants for you. – Matthew 6:33
  6. The love of the world. – 1John 2:15
  7. Fear and worry: Giving room to fear and worry is another Dagon that controls your life – Philippians 4:16
  8. Sickness
  9. Poverty
  10. Curses
  11. Demonic manifestations, etc.

    B: WAY OUT:
We need to receive a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26-27). We are dead in our sins and we need to be made alive with Christ (Ephesians 2:1-5). Also, placing our desires and affections on the things above as Apostle Paul said in Colossians 3:1-3 will make all this Dagons (idols) working against our lives bow.

    CONCLUSION:
Every heart has a throne and on that throne sits something or someone (Romans 6:16). Find out the Dagon (idol) that has sneak into your life that make you to bow to fear, worry, sadness, lust and so on and dethrone him today and put God back on His throne. He is the supreme ruler of the universe, the one to whom every Dagon must submit.

LESSON ELEVEN (11)
TOPIC: GOD CAN ALSO USE YOU TO RAISE THE DEAD
BIBLE TEXT: Mark 5:35-42

MEMORY VERSE: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father.” John 14:12

LESSON INTRODUCTION: God’s Word cannot return to Him void, it must accomplish what it was sent to do (Isaiah 55:10-11). Jesus is the word (John 1:1-2). In our today’s memory verse, Jesus expressly said that we (the believers in Him) shall do the works He did. When He was in this world, raising the dead was among the numerous miraculous works He performed; our today’s text establishes this. When He ascended, He mandated them (the disciples) to wait for the power (Acts 1:8) which they did and the power came on them (Acts 2:1-3).

LESSON OUTLINES

1: THE DISCIPLES OF OLD FULFILLED THIS MANDATE:

As it is noted that the word of God cannot fail, the disciples went into action of performing miracles. Peter is a clear example of this, when he prayed like Jesus and raised DORCAS from death (Acts 9:36-43). Even though Paul was not yet a disciple when Jesus was physically present on earth, he brought back to life EUTYCHUS (Acts 20:8-12).

2: YOU ARE INCLUDED IN THIS MANDATE:
According to Mark 16:17-18, anyone (including you) who believes in our Lord Jesus Christ and His word can perform diverse kind of miracles, including raising the dead. However you must fulfill these fundamentals: (i.) to be born again (John 3:3-5), (ii.) to believe in the word of God (John 1:12), (iii.) Evangelise and pray for the sick and they shall recover (Mark 16:15-18, 20). Gradually you begin to raise the dead through Jesus.
SUMMARY: Keep preaching the gospel in season and out of season and exercise faith in God. Miracles will come.

CONCLUSION:
God is committed to the fulfilment of His words. However, your faith is needed for the performance. So, take the bull by the horn by going out to preach the gospel; – then the miracles, signs and wonders shall automatically follow you (Mark 16:20).

LESSON TWELVE (12)
TOPIC: PRAISING GOD UNTIL HE MANIFESTS
BIBLE TEXT: Acts 16:22-28

MEMORY VERSE: “But Thou art holy, O Thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.” – Psalm 22:3

LESSON INTRODUCTION: This topic is an age-long message and because it has been preached often, most Christians these days are no longer taking it serious. By so doing, they are still struggling with their problems. These problems would have been long settled, if they have heeded and strictly adhered to this instruction and admonition from God.

LESSON OUTLINE:

THE BENEFITS OF PRAISING GOD:
There are a lot of benefits attached when we decide from the depth of our hearts to praise God, not paying lips service (i.e. not praising Him in spirit. – John 4:23-24), then God will inevitably show up. – 2 Chronicles 20:22

THESE ARE THE BENEFITS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THESE ALONE:
(i) God will discomfit all your enemies. – 2 Chronicles 20:23-24
(ii) Wealth immediately changes hands. – 2 Chronicles 20:25
(iii) Prison’s gates and doors open on their own accord. – Acts 16:25-26
(iv) You will increase in all sides. – Psalm 67:5-6
(v) Unbelievers around you will begin to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ. – Acts 16:28-31 etc.

SUMMARY: As a believer in Christ don’t stop praising God.

CONCLUSION:
Our today’s memory verse says that God inhabits the praises of His people. What is ‘inhabits’? The meaning is that God ‘dwells’ where His people are praising Him. Inferably, this means that when you praise God, your life immediately and automatically becomes God’s dwelling place (it is heaven on earth). However this will not happen if you are not living holy. – 1 Peter 1:15
