B. BIBLE TEXT: ACTS 2:1-11; ACTS 19:1-7
ACTS 2:1-11
- And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
- And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
- And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
- And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
- Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
- And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
- And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
- Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
- Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
- Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
ACTS 19:1-7
- And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
- He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
- And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
- Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
- When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
- And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
- And all the men were about twelve.
C. LESSON INTRODUCTION:
Baptism of the Holy Spirit is mentioned several times in the Bible, from the time the Lord Jesus told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the gift His Father promised – the Holy Spirit, Acts 1:4-5. Subsequently, believers in the early Church began to experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
WHO CAN RECEIVE THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?
Only those that have genuinely accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord.
It can take place at the point of conversion but there is no set time for it to occur in the life of a believer.
HOW TO RECEIVE THE BAPTISM IN THE SPIRIT?
The Bible recorded several ways believers received the baptism in the Holy Spirit; Acts 11:15-16, Acts 19:1-6, Acts 8:14-17, Acts 1:12-14.
a. Intense prayers, desire and expectation, Acts 1:12-14, Acts 2:1, Acts 8;15.
b. Spontaneously through preaching, Acts 11:15.
c. Through the laying on of hands, Acts 19:5-6, Acts 8:17.
d. God reserves the right to give it in any other way as He deems fit, just believe, pray and be expectant.

EVIDENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM
- Speaking in other tongues, Acts 2:4, 19:16, 10:45-46.
- Some other physical manifestations of the presence of the Holy Spirit e.g. crying, Acts 13:52, joy, singing – Ephesians 5:19
- Gifts of prophecy, Luke 1:41, Acts 19:6.
- Boldness and the power of God to preach Acts 1:8, 4:31.
- Working of miraculous healings Acts 5:15-16.
- Ability to pray and intercede more Acts 16:25.
- Power to overcome sin and temptations, yielding more to the Holy Spirit.
CONCLUSION: The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is meant for every believer that desires to do exploits for God. Do not be left out, go ahead and earnestly pray asking God to baptise you as well.
PRAYER POINTS
- Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- Father, make all believers receptive to being baptized in the Holy Spirit.
- Father, let our baptism in the Holy Spirit be evidenced by Your power to preach, pray and work signs and wonders, etc.
- Father, revive Your Church by the power of the Holy Ghost.
- Father, keep us pure and rapturable as we serve You by the power of the Holy Ghost.

MONDAY: Patiently ask and receive the Holy Spirit, Acts 1:4
TUESDAY: The baptism of Holy Spirit is power, Acts 1:8
WEDNESDAY: Thank God for making the Holy Spirit available for all, Acts 11:16
THURSDAY: The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a commandment, Matthew 28:19
FRIDAY: Pray for the re-enactment of the power of Pentecost in your life.
SATURDAY: Baptism as a unifier, Ephesians 4:5
SUNDAY: When you carry the Holy Spirit, you carry God, John 20:22.
