AGE 9-12 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 18TH OF DECEMBER, 2022
LESSON SIXTEEN (16)
TOPIC: WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: OUR HELPER

BIBLE TEXT: John 16:6-11
[6]But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
[7]Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
[8]And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
[9]Of sin, because they believe not on me;
[10]Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
[11]Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

MEMORY VERSE: John 14:16., “And I will ask the father and He will give you another helper, to be with you forever”

LESSON AIM: To let the children know Holy Spirit as our helper

CENTRAL TRUTH: Holy Spirit is our helper

INTRODUCTION: The Holy Spirit helps our infirmities, when we do not know what to pray for, he makes intercession for us. In any area of our lives that we need help, the Holy Spirit helps us out of our weaknesses.

STUDY GUIDE
The following are the ways by which the Holy Spirit helps us as believers.
A. OUR HELPER IN PRAYER AND THE STUDY OF GOD’S WORD.
The Holy Spirit intercedes for us in prayer (Rom. 8:26-27) especially difficult times, we groan or cry out to God, unable to put into words what we need to pray. Our Helper helps us in times of weakness, assisting us in prayer to God.
The Holy Spirit also gives us understanding of God’s word. Sinners can study the Bible and gain some knowledge, but they will fail to fully understand spiritual truths, for they are still carnal and unconverted. Only Christians who have the Holy Spirit, can know the wisdom of God and receive the spiritual truths of the Scriptures (1 Cor. 2:6-16).The Spirit of wisdom, revelation, and enlightenment opens our eyes to see spiritual ruths and wisdom that were once hidden (Eph. 1:15-19).

B. OUR HELPER IN THE FIGHT AGAINST SIN.
The Holy Spirit can give us the victory over the flesh. Jesus had a body of flesh just like us (Heb. 2:17), yet He did not sin. Even after fasting for 40 days and nights, He did not give into fleshly desire to sin (Mat 4:1-11).
How did He do it? The Helper was with Him! (Luke 4:1).”Fleshly lusts wage war against the soul” (1 Pet. 2:11) (Gal. 5:16-26).

C. OUR HELPER WHO STRENGTHENS US EACH DAY BY HIS ABIDING PRESENCE.
Believe in the Spirit’s abiding presence in daily living (Eph. 3:14-19). Too often we are oblivious to the reality of the Spirit dwelling within us. To be strong in the Lord we need “to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man” which requires FAITH the Spirit is with us. Those who believe in the Holy Spirit’s presence have the strength they need to do God’s will and never give up, knowing that they are not alone. The Holy Spirit can give us the boldness (confidence, courage) we need to face our persecutors, to speak truth, and stand for what is right.
(Acts 4:29-31; Eph. 6:18-20;2 Tim. 1:7).

D. BIBLICAL CHARACTERS THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT HELPS

  1. Jesus Christ- Acts 10:38
  2. Apostle Paul
  3. Philip- Acts 8:39

LIFE APPLICATION: For you to remember the teachings of our Lord and Saviour and also to understand the scripture when you read it, you need to invite the Holy Spirit to help you. Holy Spirit will help us to overcome our infirmities as believers.

CONCLUSION: The Holy Spirit has been sent to remind us about Christ and empower us to live in light of the gospel. Therefore the Holy Spirit is here to indwell us and help us to live for Christ.
