SUMMARY OF LESSONS 1-5
LESSON ONE (1)
TOPIC: WHAT IS A GRATEFUL HEART?
BIBLE TEXT: Psalms 100:1-5
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 100:4b Be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.
LESSON AIM: Gratitude is a Godly virtue.
CHILD RELATED TRUTH: God wants you to have a grateful heart.
INTRODUCTION: Gratitude is a powerful tool for receiving more blessings from God and man. God our maker deserves the greatest gratitude for He makes all things and we all belong to Him.
PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
A. WHAT IS GRATEFUL?
To be grateful means feeling or showing an appreciation for something done or received.
B. WHAT IS HEART?
Heart in this context is not referring to the four chambered organ in the chest that maintain the flow of blood to the body by regular contraction. But a wide range of activities which includes thinking.(mind), making choices (will), feelings and emotions. The heart is therefore the governing center for the whole man, Prov 4:23. The heart is made up of soul and the spirit.
C. WHAT IS GRATEFUL HEART?
Grateful heart means cultivating a heart of gratitude, having the habit of acknowledging goodness shown to you and expressing thanks for any kindness received regardless of the size of the kindness.
D. WHAT DOES GOD SAY ABOUT GRATEFUL HEART?
1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18
Rejoice always, pray continually. give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
CLIMAX: Any kindness no matter how small is a reason to express your gratitude.
CONCLUSION: Gratitude comes when we appreciate how much God has done for us, and how little we deserve it all. Gratitude grabs God’s attention and also makes us better.
LESSON TWO (2)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 1: GOD
BIBLE TEXT: PSALM 103
MEMORY VERSE: Exodus 15:11, “Who is like you, O Lord among the gods? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises doing wonders?”
LESSON AIM: God deserves your greatest gratitude.
CHILD RELATED TRUTH: Always give gratitude to God in all situation.
INTRODUCTION: “Give thanks to the Lord from a grateful heart for all He has done, Give thanks” is a song by Don Moen. We have so much to be grateful to God for, for all He has done and continue to do in our lives. A grateful heart is a thankful heart, who else deserves the greatest gratitude than your maker and the keeper and sustainer of your life?
PROGRESSION OF EVENTS.
A. God is the creator of all things and the absolute owner of everything. Genesis 1:1, Hebrevw 11:3, Nehemiah 9:6, Job 26:7
B. God is your creator, He made you in His perfect image. Genesis 1:27, Revelation 4:11
C. God is Holy, He is pure and perfect He is always right and good Isaiah 6:3, Psalm 99:5
D. God is Love: He gave us His only perfect son to die for the forgiveness of our sin. John 3:16, I John 4:7-8, 16.
E. He is Merciful: God’s care for you is beyond your thinking an imagination Deuteronomy 4:31,14:18, Psalm 130:3.
F. He is Gracious, compassionate and slow to anger Psalm 103:8
G. He is Forgiving, Psalm 103:9-12.
H. He is Sovereign: Rules over all, every power must submit to Him Psalm 93:1-2, Exodus 15:11, 2 Chronicles 20:6.
I. He is Faithful: He keeps His Word Psalm 119:90, Lamentation 3:22-23, I Corinthians 10:13
J. He is Omnipresent: God is real, present everywhere and without limitation Psalm 139:7-12, Prov. 15:3 (He see everything that you do).
K. He is Omniscient: His knowledge is unsearchable. He knows the past, present and future. (He knows everything about you.) Psalm 147:5, Isaiah 40:28.
L. He is Omnipotent: God is all powerful performs wonders and miracles (His power is without limit). Luke 1:37.
M. He is Omni-sapient: To God belong wisdom and understanding Job 12:13, Psalm 139:1-6, Psalm 104:24, Romans 11:33.
N. He is Immutable: God changes not Malachi 3:6, Hebrew 13:8, Psalm 102:27.
O. He is Majestic: awesome, wonderful, excellent, surpasses all in beauty, power etc. Psalm 29:24, Isaiah 24:14.
CLIMAX: God is unsearchable Job 11:7, Eccl.3:11
CONCLUSION: God deserves your gratitude for who He is. He is the l am that l am. Exodus 3:4
LESSON THREE (03)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 2: PARENTS
BIBLE TEXT: Exodus 1:6—2:10
MEMORY VERSE: Ephesians 6:2 “Honour your father and mother which is the first commandment with promise”.
LESSON AIM: Your parents deserves your gratitude.
CHILD RELATED TRUTH: Always show gratitude to your parents.
INTRODUCTION: God gave you to your parent to partner with Him to raise you to become what He planned for you to be. Parenting is an assignment from God, they give to you physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, it is a whole lot of responsibility Luke 1:52. Therefore you must be thankful by showing your gratitude to them. How do you show your parent gratitude? (let the children respond )

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
A. The Israelites grew in population while in Egypt (vs I, 6,7)
B. Fearing lsrael’s numbers, pharaoh made them slaves to control
them 1:8-14 (The people of lsrael had become slaves to the wicked pharaoh. A slave is someone under the control of something or someone else. The Bible says in psalm 51:5 that from the time we are born. You and I have been controlled by sin. Sin is wanting your way instead of God’s way. That is why you do sinful things like Stealing, Fighting, lying etc. Roman 3:23, But God loves you and sent someone to free you from sin. John 3:16 God’s own perfect son whom he sent willingly took the punishment for your sin when he died on the cross Roman 5:8. He gave his blood so you would not have to be separated from God forever. He came alive again, and you can believe on him and have everlasting life. Only by believing on him as your Saviour you can be free from the punishment of your sin. The people of Israel were not free, they were slaves to their wicked pharaoh).
C Pharaoh ordered the mid wives to kill male babies born to Hebrew mothers’ vs 1:15, 16 (Pharaoh’s plan was to eventually eliminate the Hebrew race).
D The mid-wives honored God and defiled pharaoh’s instructions by allowing the male babies to live (1:22).
E. Determined to have his wicked way pharaoh commanded that male babies be drowned in the Nile River 1:22
F A Hebrew woman named Jochebed gave birth to a son and hid him for three months (Jochebed was concerned for her child’s safety, she was not afraid of king Pharaoh’s order, she wanted her child to live. Christian parent do all they need to do like Jochebed to make sure that their children are safe they provided food, shelter, love, school fees etc. to raise their children and most importantly that they know God from childhood. Parents sacrifice a lot to partner with God to make Godly children. Parenting is a hard work and God want all parents to take their responsibility. Jochebed did not fail in hers, may parent not fail God in raising their children in God’s way. What should be the responsibility of children to their parents?
Be grateful to them by being obedient and honor them in return).
G. Jochebed courageously laid her baby in a water proof basket in the Nile river, (water proof so that he will no drawn you too needs the word of GOD as the water proof against the wrong teachings in the world around you. So you will not drown in the sinful world).
H. Miriam the baby’s sister, watched to see what will happen to him. (2:4).
I. Pharaoh’s daughter discovered the basket when she went to the river to bath and she felt sorry for the crying baby V.2: 5, 6 (it was a very brave thing for Jochebed to place the basket in the river. Parenting need a lot of courage and braveness to take certain decisions that will help the child to grow physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. Luke 2:52).
J. The baby’s sister offered to find a Hebrew woman to care for the baby. 2:7-9.
CLIMAX: God rewarded Jochebed’s courage by allowing her the joy of safely caring for her own baby.
CONCLUSION: Parents love and care is very important for the balanced growth and development of every child, parents gives a lot and therefore deserves their children’s gratitude. May you be that child that will appreciate your parents and therefore show grateful heart to them always.
LESSON FOUR (4)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 3: TEACHERS
BIBLE TEXT: EZRA 7:1-10
MEMORY VERSE: Acts 5:42 And daily in the temple, and in every house they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
LESSON AIM: Teachers are partners with God and parents in molding lives of young ones.
CHILD RELATED TRUTH: Obedience and respect for your teacher is a sign of gratitude.
INTRODUCTION: A teacher is someone who impart knowledge, skill or training There are formal and informal teachers. A formal teacher teaches within the four wall of a classroom and we have others like coaches, instructors and your Sunday school teachers.
They all work hard to see that you acquire some knowledge or skill that improves your life and make you useful and valuable therefore they deserve your gratitude.
PROGRESSION OF EVENTS.
A. After the city of Jerusalem was destroyed by Babylonians the city were carried away to a pagan city of Babylon, after seventy year the Persians overthrow Babylon and the Jewish who are God’s people could return to Jerusalem.(The city Jerusalem was destroyed by war and the people were taken into slavery they lost their freedom. sin also make you to lose your freedom. what is sin)?
B. The temple in lerusalem was built back and Ezra came back up from Babylon and he was a skilled script in the law of Moses which the LORD God of Israel had given.
C. Some of the children of Israel, the priest, the Levites, the singer. gate keeper came back to Jerusalem in the 7th year.
D. And Ezra came to Jerusalem in the 5th month of the 7th year of the king.
E. For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord and to do it, and to teach God’s status and ordinances in Israel.7:10
CLIMAX: Ezra found favour and support from king Artaxerxes who gave a decree that all the lsraelite in his domain that want to return to Jerusalem with Ezra may go and the king gave the silver and gold 7:11-15
CONCLUSION: Teachers are very important in the lives of people as bring about a desired change in the behavior of their learners as we see how God used Ezra to turn the heart of the people back to God and they became better people. There are many people in the Bible that God used too Moses = Joshua, Elijah=Elisha, Paul=Timothy etc.
LESSON FIVE (5)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 4: FRIENDS/NEIGHBORS
BIBLE TEXT: 1 Samuel 18:1—20:42
MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs I7:17Afriend loves at all times”.
LESSON AIM: God wants you to have great friendship.
CHILD RELATED TRUTH: Show Gratitude To Your Friends.
INTRODUCTION: Proverbs 18:24 says a man that have friend must show himself friendly; and there is a friend that stick closer than a brother. Friendship is beautiful and divine a genuine friend is a gift from God. True friends love at all times Proverbs 18:24; faithful and dependable Proverbs 27:10, Loyal 2 Sam I:23, Encourages 2 Tim. I:16, Ready to sacrifice Luke 5:1-26 and many more. If you have a friend with these quantities be grateful to them.
PROGRESSION OF EVENTS.
A. After David’s victory over Goliath, he joined Saul’s household. l18:2
B. David and Saul’s son; Jonathan became best friend 18:1,3,4.
C. King Saul gave David a very high position as a military commander 18:5.
D. When king Saul and David were returning from a battle Saul heard a group of woman celebrating David’s victories in songs 18:6,7.
E. King Saul became angry, he was jealous of David’s fame 18:8,9 (Jealousy is a sin, what is sin? Whatever you think, do or say that displeases God, example lying, fighting, stealing etc. sin separates you from God. Rom 3:23. But God loves you and gave Jesus Christ his beloved son to die for your sins. John 3:16. Jesus came died on the cross, gave his blood, and rose the third day. The blood of Jesus washed away your sin. You can have your sins forgiven because Jesus’s blood takes away your sins if you believe in him. Hebrew 9: 1 3).
F. Disturbed by a distressing spirit, the enraged Saul attempt to kill David with a spear 18:10-12.
G. King Saul demoted David by sending him away from the palace, but God blessed David with increase success 18:13-16.
H. King Saul made several attempts that failed, so he asked his servants and his son Jonathan to kill David, Jonathan pleaded with his father to repent. Vs 18:1 7b-19:1,4,5.
I. God used Jonathan David friend to escape death by telling him to run away to safety (what a true friend Jonathan was to David).
CLIMAX: Jonathan was loyal to David, then Jonathan said to David “Go in peace since we have both sworn in the name of the Lord, saying, may the Lord be between you and me and between your descendant and my descendant forever” 20:42.
CONCLUSION: After king Saul and Jonathan his son died, David became king and he show gratitude to his friend Jonathan by bringing his son Mephiboseth to the palace and gave him all the inheritance of his grandfather king Saul. 2 Samuel 9:1.
