SUMMARY OF LESSONS 1-5
LESSON ONE (1)
TOPIC: WHAT IS A GRATEFUL HEART?

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Chronicles 29:1-20

MEMORY VERSE: Hebrew 13:15 “By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.”

LESSON AIM: The children will realize that God owns all they have and they should show Him their gratitude by giving willingly and generously

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God wants you to be grateful for everything.

INTRODUCTION
Children! Do you know that throughout the time Jesus was on earth, He demonstrated His gratitude to God? When others rejected Him and did not repent (Matthew 11:40-44 when He cared for others in need (John 6:10-13), when He grieved the loss of a close friend (John 11:40-44) and even in the face of persecution and death (Luke 22:17-19).
Jesus had a grateful heart toward the Father throughout. A long time ago before Jesus came to earth, there was a king who displayed gratitude for everything God did for him

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. David gathered all the people of Israel together and told them that his son Solomon was chosen by God to replace him as king
  2. He told them that they had a big task before them to build the temple but it is not for man to build but for God.
  3. David as a king had much wealth and wanted to do his part in giving to the work of building God’s temple.
  4. David gave of his own gold, silver, bronze, iron, and wood for the materials needed to build the temple and he also gave jewels, colorful and fine stones, and a large amount of marble
  5. David gave willingly because of his love for God and was thankful for all of the blessings that God had given him, and the leaders also gave materials for the work.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: We love God because He first loved us and sent His Son Jesus to take the punishment for our sins so that we can have them forgiven. True gratitude comes from knowing Jesus as Lord and Saviour and putting all our trust in Him. Jesus came to earth and lived a sinless life. He took our place to take the punishment we deserve for our sins by dying a shameful death on the cross, He was buried and came alive again on the third day. When we put our trust in Him, we can have a heart full of gratitude when we think of God’s love (John 3:16)

  1. The Israelites rejoiced greatly when they saw that David and the leaders all giving willingly and wholeheartedly toward the work on the temple

CLIMAX: What was happening caused David to praise God before all the people that He is the owner of all they gave for the building of the temple.

CONCLUSION: David prayed for the people to have the desire to give, be loyal, and be faithful to God, and also prayed for his son Solomon. David told the people to praise the Lord and they all praised Him by bowing down to the ground face down before the Lord.

LESSON TWO (2)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 1: GOD

BIBLE TEXT: Luke 17:11-19

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

LESSON AIM: The children will learn that everything in their lives comes from God and should always give Him thanks and praises.

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God wants you to be grateful to the Lord

INTRODUCTION
During the time Jesus lived on earth, sickness was termed as a result of sin. Sick people always approached Jesus for healing knowing that He had the power of God and it is only God who has the power to heal them. They were ten lepers who had probably heard of Jesus healing the sick and sought His help to heal them.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT
1 Jesus on His way to Jerusalem went along the border between Samaria and Galilee

  1. As He went into a village, ten men with a skin disease called leprosy met Him
  2. They were standing close by and shouted to Jesus to pity them
  3. Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priest
  4. While they were on their way, the lepers got healed and only one of them who was a samaritan came back to say thanks to Jesus

GOSPEL CONNECTION: Can you believe that they were healed by the power of God and nine of them forgot to say thank you? Not saying thank you is an act of ingratitude which is a sin. Romans 6:23 tells us that there is a punishment for sin which is eternal separation from God, but it went further to say that the gift of life is through Jesus. God sent Jesus to die for our Sins because of the love He has for you and me. Jesus died a sinful death on the cross to give us life.

CLIMAX: Jesus asked him, were they not ten of you, where are the other nine? Jesus declared that his faith had made him whole.

CONCLUSION: Jesus was not happy with the nine who did not give thanks but was happy with the one who gave thanks.

LESSON THREE (03)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 2: PARENTS

BIBLE TEXT: Luke 2:41-52

MEMORY VERSE: Exodus 20:12″Honor thy father and thymother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God wants you to honor your parents through Jesus Christ.

They all gather in Jerusalem for this special day. It was lots of fun for the children because they could be together with family members, relatives, neighbors, and friends. They had great times.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. When Jesus was twelve years old, they went to Jerusalem for the Passover feast.
  2. After one week of celebrations, they headed back to Nazareth
  3. Jesus remained in Jerusalem and His parents did not know about it.
  4. Mary and Joseph had traveled a whole day before they realized that Jesus was not in their midst.
  5. They looked for Him among friends and relatives and did not find Him so they turned back to Jerusalem.
  6. They searched for Jesus for three days and were amazed at His understanding when they found Him in the temple among the teachers both listening and asking them questions.
  7. Mary asked Jesus why did you make us worry about you but Jesus replied that He was going about His Father’s business, they did not understand His statement.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: God became man and lived among us. Jesus knew what it is like in our shoes though He lived without sin, He can take away our guilt of sin when we put our trust in Him as Lord and Savior. Because of God’s love for you and me, He sent His only Son Jesus into the world to die a shameful death on the cross so that our guilt can be taken away (John 5:24).

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. Priest Jehoiada and Jehosheba, the Aunt of Joash rescued him from death by hiding him in the temple for six years because Attaliah ruthlessly killed her grandsons so that she can reign.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: Being ruthless and killing is a sin, and God punishes sin. Sin separates us from God so He made a way out for our sins to be forgiven. God sent His Son Jesus to earth to take the punishment for your sins by dying on the cross, was buried, and arose again from the dead on the third day. If you put your faith in Him as Lord and Saviour, He will forgive you your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. Jonathan the son of King Saul and David became very close friends.
  2. Jonathan made a covenant with David by giving him his clothes and his weapons of war.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: Jesus who is the mighty friend of sinners offers all who believe in Him, His clothes of Righteousness. Jesus put on our filthy rags when He was nailed on the cross, He was buried and rose again on the third day. If you put your faith in Jesus as Saviour, He will take off your filthy rags and put on you His robe of righteousness. You will no longer be an enemy of God but a close friend of Jesus.

  1. One day when the soldiers were returning home, the women had gathered on the streets singing and dancing, praising David so King Saul was jealous and angry.
