LESSON THIRTY NINE (39)
TOPIC: SUSTAINING THE FIRE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THROUGH THE WORD

TEXT: John 1:1-4
[1]In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2]The same was in the beginning with God.
[3]All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
[4]In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

MEMORY VERSE: John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth, the flesh profiteth nothing, the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life.

LESSON AIM: To learn the importance of the word of God in sustaining the fire of the Holy Spirit.

CENTRAL TRUTH: The word of God is God and God is Spirit.

INTRODUCTION: The word of God is the major ingredients for our spiritual life and growth. It contains all the basic spiritual nutrients that will make us grow. To grow spiritually and be sustained we need the milk of the word of God, 1 Peter 2:2, and energy from the word, Matthew 4:4. The word of God is the source of life and life can be sustained by the word of God.

STUDY GUIDE
A. THE IMPORTANCE OF GOD’S WORD

  1. The whole earth was made by the word of God. 2 Peter 3:5-7, Hebrew 11:3.
  2. The word of God is full of power. Hebrew 4:12
  3. The word of God carries the power of God. John 6:63.
  4. The word of God is the weapon of spiritual warfare. Ephesians 6:17.
  5. The word of God is able to clean us spiritually. Psalms 119:9, John 15:3.

B. WHAT SHOULD WE DO WITH THE WORD OF GOD

  1. Feed for on it for it is our spiritual food. Jeremiah 15:16, Mathew 4:4, 1 Peter 2:2.
  2. Love the word and let it dwell in our heart. Deuteronomy 6:6-7, 11:18,.Colossian 3:16.
  3. Study the word and search the scripture. John 5:39, Acts 17:11, 2 Timothy 2:15.
  4. Teach and preach the word of God. Matthew 28:20, 2 Timothy 4:2.

C. OTHER BENEFITS OF THE WORD

  1. The word of God gives us spiritual rebirth. James 1:21b; 1 Peter 1:23.
  2. Meditating on the word of God brings success and prosperity. Joshua 1:8
  3. The word of God is a source of divine guidance. Psalm 119:105 & 130.
  4. The word of God brings healing and deliverance. Psalms 107:20.

CONCLUSION: Eating the word of God will help to sustain our spiritual fire. Jeremiah 15:16; Matthew 4:4.

INVITATION: The word of God is able to clean us from our sins. Psalms 119:9-11. Give attention to reading, studying and meditation on the word today.

LIFE APPLICATION: The amount of the word of God in you determines you worth in the world.
