AGE 9-12 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 4TH OF SEPTEMBER, 2022
LESSON ONE (01)
TOPIC: THE TRINITY
BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 3:13-17
[13]Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
[14]But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
[15]And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
[16]And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
[17]And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 28:19″ Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
LESSON AIM: To let the children know our belief about the Trinity.
CENTRAL TRUTH: There is one God who manifests as three distinct persons.
INTRODUCTION: The word trinity comes from “tri’ meaning three and “unity” meaning one. As the creatures of God we are made of three entities, we are made of spirit, soul and body. Also God is three distinct individuals – God the Father, the Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. This particular lesson will help you to know more about the trinity and will help you have a better understanding of who God is. Jesus told us in the bible that Himself and God are one {John 10:30). The book of Matthew chapter 3 clearly state how the three work together. Jesus came from Galilee to be baptized by John the Baptist in order to fulfill all righteousness. When Jesus was baptized, the Spirit of God descended like a dove and lighted upon him. And God spoke from heaven that this is my beloved son, in whom He is well pleased. In this passage we see the manifestation of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost as three distinct personalities though they are one.

STUDY GUIDE
A. OUR BELIEF ABOUT TRINITY
- Trinity is a Christian doctrine of the unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one Godhead.
- The doctrine of the Trinity is considered to be one of the central Christian affirmations about God. It is rooted in the fact that God came to meet Christians in a threefold figure:
a. God as a creator. Genesis 1:1
b. Jesus was presented to us as the Saviour of the world. John 3:16
c. Holy Spirit was introduced to us as a Comforter. John 14:26
B. TRINITY RELATIONSHIP
The Doctrine of the Trinity also helps us understand a few more important truths about God.
- Each Person of the Trinity is believed to be completely God. 1 John 5:7
- The Trinity is not three Gods combined in one. We have just one God, who manifest Himself in different ways.
- Each member of the Trinity is different but 100% God. They’re all equal. And they all share the same divine Nature.
- The Father is not a part of God, but God himself. Likewise, the Son is not a part of God, but God. John 1:1, Holy spirit is not part of God but God himself. The Trinity is like an egg. Just as ONE egg has THREE different parts -the shell, the white, the yoke
- One God has Three different Persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
C. GOD IN THREE DISTINCT PERSONS
The bible reveals God is the Father (Ephesians 4:6, 1 John 3:1), God is the Son/Word (John 1:1, 14; 1 John 5:20; John 3:16, Colossians 1:15), and God is the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10; Ephesians 4:30). It also reveals in the bible that each member of the Trinity is distinct from each other. We see all three linked together in scripture, for example commissioning us to baptize “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19) and found in the benediction. Consider further this line of evidence.
All Three Persons are called God in different places in the Bible.
• Father – Galatians 1:1
• Son – John 20:28
• Spirit – Acts 5:3-4
CONCLUSION: God The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit are to be worshiped as one.
