SUMMARY OF LESSONS 1-5
LESSON ONE (1)
TOPIC: WHAT IS A GRATEFUL HEART?
BIBLE TEXT: Psalms 103:1-5
MEMORY VERSE: 1Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you”.
LESSON AIM: The presence of God in every situation of our lives qualify Him to be praised.
CENTRAL TRUTH: Be grateful in all circumstances.
INTRODUCTION: A Grateful heart is a heart full of appreciation for blessings received. When one has a grateful heart, life becomes very beautiful because more blessings will be received thereby making the individual extremely happy.
A heart of gratitude always recalls with immense appreciation all that God is doing for him/her which provokes heartfelt Praise to God. Examples of such are;
- Noah- after the flood (Gen 8:20-22)
- Mary the mother of Jesus (Luke 1:46-55)
- The woman with the Alabaster Box of ointment (Luke 7:37-50) to mention but a few.

A. OTHER WAYS TO DESCRIBE A GRATEFUL HEART
- A heart feel indebted to the goodness of God. Psalm 103:1-5
- A grateful heart is a heart that recognize and appreciate everything done to him/her
- It is always thankful. Psalm 34:1
- Is a heart that praise God. Psalm 9:1
- A Heart Filled with thanks
- Always joyful.
- When a person develops a deeper appreciation for the life he or she has been given, even a midst difficulty. 1Thess 5:18
B. WHAT IT MEANS TO SHOW GRATITUDE- COLOSSIANS 3:16-17
- Gratitude is to say or to make someone feel that what they did for you is best and you are thankful for it
- Gratitude is about focusing on what’s good in our lives and being thankful for them.
- Gratitude is a position of the heart that is filled with the word of God and began to sing with grace unto the Lord for His numerous benefits in one’s life.

ANTONYMS OF GRATEFUL
- Ungrateful
- Unappreciative
- Abusive

CONCLUSION: Every child must know what it means to be grateful. A grateful heart will always show appreciation both to God and people. It does not matter what you are going through as a child, don’t forget we have some other children going through something more critical and we believe that God will also give everyone of us victory over our challenges. The word of God must dwell in you richly to be able to thank Him adequately (Colossians 3:16).
LESSON TWO (2)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 1: GOD
BIBLE TEXT: Luke 17:11-19
MEMORY VERSE: Luke 17:15 “And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,”
LESSON AIM: God is motivated to release remarkable Blessings when accorded gratitude because He warrants and delight in it.
CENTRAL TRUTH: God is pleased when you Praise Him.
INTRODUCTION: Our gratitude pleases and motivates God towards showcasing
His Might for and on our behalf. Unfortunately, the nine lepers received God’s Blessings with an ungrateful heart when they never returned to thank Jesus after being healed. Therefore, they hindered themselves from receiving complete restoration.

A. WHO IS GOD?
- God has always existed and always will. Psalm 90:2, Exodus 3:14
- God is a Spirit. John 4:24
- He fills the entire universe. Psalm 139:7-10
- He is the only true God. Isaiah 45:21-22
- God is the creator of the universe. Genesis 1:1
- God is far beyond man’s limited ability to understand. Isaiah 55:8-9
- God love to be praise.
B. WHY MUST WE PRAISE GOD ALWAYS?
- For His great Personality- Psalm 104:1-4
- For the mighty works of His hands -Psalm 104:5-31
- He forgives all our sins no matter how grievous or numerous they maybe. Psalm 51:7; Isaiah 1:18; The woman with the Alabaster Box of ointment – Luke 7:37-50; Paul – Acts 9:1-15
- He heals all our diseases. Naaman-2 Kings 5:1-15; Jeremiah 30:17
- He redeems us from death. Psalm 107:20
- He crowns us with love and tender mercies. Hezekiah – 2 Kings 20:5; Centurion and his servant -Matthew 8:8; Mary the mother of Jesus (Luke 1:46-55)
- He fill our lives with good things. King Jehoshaphat – 2 Chronicles 20:21-26;2 Kings 7
- He give us Strength. Isaiah 40:31;2 Corinthians 4:8-9
- To proclaim His mighty works to the world- Psalm 105:1-3
C. GOD DISPOSITION TO GRATITUDES
- God is greatly pleased when we give Him thanks all the time; in season and out of season; in good times and bad times (1 Thessalonians 5:1 6-18).
- Do you know that giving God thanks in seemingly hopeless situations provokes astonishing miracles because He is our Present help in time of trouble – Psalm 46:1; Moses and the red Sea -Exodus 14:13 – 31 Paul and Silas – Acts 16:23-39.
- A grateful heart provokes God towards showering blessings asked for and even many more not asked for eg:
- Noah(Gen 8:20-22);
- King Solomon (1 Kings 3:4-14)
A grateful heart will move bring down the presence of God
D. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF THOSE THAT GOD DELIGHTS IN WHEN THEY PRAISE HIM.
- King David. 2 Samuel 6:13-15
- King Jehoshaphat. 2 Chronicle 20:21-22
- King Solomon. 1 Kings 3:4-14
- Noah. Genesis 8:20-22
CONCLUSION: Gratitude is an attitude and response of thankfulness to the kindness of God and others.
LESSON THREE (03)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 2: PARENTS
BIBLE TEXT: Luke 2:41-52
MEMORY VERSE: Exodus 20:12 “Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”
LESSON AIM: God blesses and holds in high regard all children who obey their parents
CENTRAL TRUTH: Obedience to Parents is a Command from God and an expression of a grateful heart.
INTRODUCTION: Obedience to Parents is a show of gratitude as well as a command from God (Exodus 20:12). God has high regard for those who obey Spiritual and Biological Parents. In commemoration of His respect, He declared a “Blessing” over all who obey -Deuteronomy 5:16 “Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee”.

A. HOW TO SHOW GRATITUDE TO YOUR PARENTS
- Being obedient to them.
- Tell them you love them.
- Being a good boy and girl.
- Facing your studies
- Do your assigned hoUse chores
- Study your Bible.
- Follow your parents to church services
- Be respectful
- Spend time together
- Give them gifts
B. BENEFITS OF HONORING YOUR PARENTS
1 Honoring Your Parents guarantees long Life- Ephesians 6:2-3. …
- Honoring Your Parents guarantees success in life-Ephesians 6:2-3.
- Honoring Your Parents averts evil and dangers from touching you- Prov. 20:20.
- Honoring Your Parents provokes them to love you – Mal 5:6.
- Honoring your parents provokes your parents’ blessings upon your life and destiny. Gen 27:25-29
- Honoring Your Parents averts being cursed by your father or mother- Gen 49:3-4
C. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF TH0SE THAT ARE OBEDIENT
- Jesus Christ- Luke 2:51

- Joseph- Genesis, 37:3

CONCLUSION: Gratitude to Parents may also be expressed through;
a Kind words from children such as “Please, may I …”, “Thank you, mummy/daddy”; I love you, mummy/daddy”; God bless you, mummy/daddy”; just to mention but a few.
b Loving smile or laughter.
c. Speaking the truth always.
If Jesus obeyed His earthily Parents while on earth, God expects all children to do same.
LESSON FOUR (4)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 3: TEACHERS
BIBLE TEXT: 1 Corinthians 9:11-14; Romans 15:25-27
MEMORY VERSE: Galatians 6:6 “Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things”.
LESSON AIM: God commands that Teachers are shown gratitude.
CENTRAL TRUTH: Appreciate your teachers with your substance.
INTRODUCTION: The adage which says that ” Teachers’ reward is in heaven” is a myth because Scripture makes us understand that caring and appreciating Teachers is a Command – Matthew 10:10. A Grateful heart appreciates his or her Teacher for their effort either in cash or kind -1 Timothy 5:17-18. Cash appreciation are known as salary, wages, honorarium while appreciation in kind maybe spoken words such as “Thank you so very much”, a warm smile, a big hug, a clap, gifts, just to mention but a few. Appreciating Teachers encourages and drives them to put in their best and even go an extra mile at ensuring that all they teach is imparted seamlessly.

A. WHO IS A TEACHER?
A teacher has been defined as “an expert who is capable of imparting knowledge that will help learners to build, identify and to acquire skills thatnwill be used to face the challenges in life. The teacher also provides to the learners knowledge, skills and values that enhance development. Thus, A teacher is a person who provides education for pupils and students. Matt. 28:20.
A teacher, also is formally an educator, is a person who helps students to acquire knowledge, competence, or virtue, via the practice of teaching. Prov. 9:9.
B. WAYS TO SAY THANK YOU TO YOUR TEACHERS
- Thank them fortheir support in school work.
- Thank them for their kindness
- Find out what your teacher likes and give them a surprise gifts.
- Encourage your parents to send gift to your teachers.
- Pray for them.
- Appreciate them during special occasions
- Say thank you at the end of school activities.
C. IMPORTANCE OF SHOWING GRATITUDE TO TEACHERS
a. It builds a lasting relationship.
b. It motivates the teachers to do more.
c. It ministers to the needs of the teachers.
d. It shows we are God’s children.
e. It promotes peace.
f. We will receive reward from the God of the teacher.
CONCLUSION: Teachers both spiritual and circular impart knowledge that transform lives. Therefore, it is expected that the one who is being taught should appreciate the one teaching with all good things -Deuteronomy 25:4.
Appreciating or showing gratitude to Teachers had been a practice from the days of old as mandated by God -Numbers 18:8-24. Whenever gratitude is expressed towards a Teacher, the heavenly account of the individual is credited – Philippians 4:15-16 because it is a sweet-smelling aroma, a sacrifice acceptable and well-pleasing to God -Philippians 4:18.
LESSON FIVE (5)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 4: FRIENDS/NEIGHBORS
BIBLE TEXT: 1 Samuel 18:1-3
MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 19:19b “and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself”.
LESSON AIM: Gratitude towards one another bonds friends and neighbours together stronger.
CENTRAL TRUTH: Loving your Friends/Neighbours wholeheartedly is a Command from God.
INTRODUCTION: Do you know that Friends/Neighbors can bond stronger than brothers? David and Jonathan’s friendship is a great example because; their friendship was based on commitment to God, secondly, they never allowed any offense, weakness or fault set them apart and finally, they waxed stronger when their loyalty to one another was tested.
Certainly, if we all adhere to the command of loving our friend/Neighbors as ourselves, we will always extend a grateful heart towards one another making the world a better Place!
A. WHO IS A FRIEND/NEIGHBOUR? Luke 10:27-37
- A good friend can Support.
- A good friend always prayed for his friend.
- A good friend express love (Agape) to you. Phil.2 :5-7
- Trustworthy. Prov. 11:13.
- Shared eternal life. 1Thess. 4:16-17.
- They live with integrity.
- They are always ready to help.
B. IMPORTANCE OF FRIENDSHIP AND GO0D NEIGHBOURLINESSS
- A good friend/ neighbour is a blessing.
- A good friend or neighbour is approachable.
- It will help to make evangelism easier.
- It helps in community development.
- It promotes peace.
- It makes you feel the love of Christ.
C. HOW TO SHOW GRATITUDE TO YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS
- Solve school home work together.
- Pray for your friends and neighbours.
- Saythank you when they help you.
- Give them good counsels.
- Tell them about Jesus Christ.
- Send them gifts during joyful occasions e.g Christmas.
- Share Bible knowledge with them.
CONCLUSION: 1 Samuel 18:1-4. Jonathan’s grateful heart towards David is a picture of Christ Jesus unending love for us – John 15:13; which He expects we extend to friends and neighbors daily.
