LESSON TWENTY-FOUR (24)
TOPIC: SELFLESS SERVICE

BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 22:37-39
[37]Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
[38]This is the first and great commandment.
[39]And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

MEMORY VERSE: Daniel 3:18 – “But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”

LESSON AIM: To teach the Teens the need to render selfless service to God and humanity.

CENTRAL TRUTH: God created us to be blessings to people.

INTRODUCTION: Selfless service can be called “dedication and commitment” to something without expecting anything in return. It is the willingness and readiness to serve, and it is very important, not for any gain, but because you believe in it. It is very important to render selfless service in various aspects of our lives: to our families, the Church, school, neighbors, friends, and in all that we do and say sometimes. However, the Bible makes us understand that the chief commitment of our lives is to God Himself – Matthew 22:37-38.

STUDY GUIDE
A. How to render selfless service to God?

  1. Make Him your one and only God – Exodus 20:3, Matthew 6:24.
  2. Acknowledge Him in all your ways – Proverbs 3:5-6.
  3. Get committed in Church and in things that have to do with God’s Kingdom.
  4. Be willing to give your time, energy, money, and possessions to serve God with all your heart, and without expecting anything in return.
  5. Never do anything with eye service; do all things to the glory of God – Ephesians 6:6, 1 Corinthians 10:31.
  6. Don’t sell your talents to God because He gave them to you in the first place to serve Him.

B. How to render selfless service to People

  1. Show love to people – Matthew 22:37-38.
  2. Be a blessing to others by helping them.

C. Benefits of being dedicated and committed to God

  1. Your plans will be established.
  2. God will always be with you – Daniel 3:25.
  3. He will never forget you – Psalm 37:28.
  4. According to the law of sowing and reaping, God will be committed to you too.
  5. God will make you a blessing to the world.
  6. You will not miss your reward in heaven if you stay true to God – John 14:2-3.

LIFE APPLICATION: Every facet of our lives must be centered on loving and serving the Lord. He created us for this very purpose. Therefore, because He did not hold anything back from us – John 3:16, we must hold nothing back from Him. Jesus said our commitment to Him must supersede our commitment to even our families – Luke 14:26-27.

INVITATION: The best thing to do is to dedicate your life to God and use the gifts and talents given to you to serve Him and be a blessing to others. Draw closer to Him, and He will take you higher.

DISCUSSION:

  1. Is it right to sell our talents to God?
  2. How can one sell his or her talents to God?
  3. How can we render selfless service to God and others?

CONCLUSION: Mark 12:30 says the first commandment is that we love the Lord with all our heart, and with all our soul and with all our mind and with all our strength. For us to show that we love Him, it must be evident in our dedication and commitment to kingdom matters. The Lord, and even other people, expect that we live altruistic and generous lives with the gifts we have been given.
