AGE 4-5 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 16TH OF MARCH, 2025
LESSON TWENTY NINE (29)
TOPIC: DEALING WITH ADDICTION

BIBLE TEXT: Genesis 9:13-24
[13]I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
[14]And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
[15]And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
[16]And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
[17]And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
[18]And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.
[19]These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.
[20]And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
[21]And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
[22]And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
[23]And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.
[24]And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

MEMORY VERSE: James 4:7 “Submit yourself then resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

LESSON AIM: Addiction destroys

CHILD RELATED TRUTH: Flee from addiction

INTRODUCTION: Addiction simply means dependency on feelings received from drugs, alcohol, cigarette, gambling etc. Addiction is destructive. Proverbs 25:16 says have you found honey? Eat as much as you need, lest you be filled with it and vomit. Addict of whatever type is a sin and it has many dangerous and bad effect even death. Resist the temptation of it.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT
A. The sons of Noah who went out of the Ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth and Ham was the father of Canaan from them the whole earth was populated vs. 18-19.
B. And Noah began to be a farmer and he planted vineyard. vs 20
C. Then he drank of the wine and was drunk and became uncovered in his tent. vs 21 (Drunkenness is a sin, Addiction is a sin. Sin is whatever you do that displeases God. Romans 3:23 says for all have sinned. Sin attracts punishment, Romans 6:23, but God does not want us to be punished because He loves us. John 3:16. Jesus Christ came, He gave His blood, died, was buried and He rose on the third day. He gave His blood so that you can have your sins forgiven of you. Receive Him as your Savior. Hebrews 9:22b)
D. And Ham father of Canaan saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. Vs. 22
E. But Shem and Japhet took a garment laid it on both their shoulder and went backward and covered their father’s nakedness, their faces were turned away and they did not see their father’s nakedness. Vs. 23. (Sin brings shame, sickness or death. It affects the health, finances, family and spirituality of the addicted, therefore it should be avoided.)

CLIMAX: So Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his younger son had done to him, then he cursed him “Cursed be Canaan, A servant of servants he shall be to his brethren.” Vs. 24-25

CONCLUSION: As he blessed the Lord, the God of Shem and may Canaan be his servant and may God enlarge Japheth, and may he dwell in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be his servant (Alcohol is a mocker, the consequences of it bad and destructive, a child of God must not be given to addiction)

CHALLENGE: As a child of God, you must run away from addiction. God wants you to live a holy life.

INVITATION: Receive Jesus Christ as your saviour and you will receive power to overcome sin.
