AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 16TH OF MARCH, 2025
LESSON TWENTY NINE (29)
TOPIC: DEALING WITH ADDICTION

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Kings 11:1-11
[1]But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites;
[2]Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.
[3]And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
[4]For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
[5]For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
[6]And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.
[7]Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.
[8]And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.
[9]And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,
[10]And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded.
[11]Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

MEMORY VERSE: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:33 “Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”

LESSON AIM: The children will learn that addiction is disobedience and God will punish it

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God wants you to be obedience to Jesus

INTRODUCTION: What’s something special you like to play with or are glad you have? (Soccer balls, books, video games, etc.) list some of the things you think are more important than God. (Money, clothes, cool toys.) We all love different things and most of these things are called addiction. But God deserves our love more than anything! Do you know anyone who shows that God is most important to him or her? What does that person do that shows you God is important to them? There was once a king who was addicted to marrying many wives and God did not like it

PROGRESSION OF EVENT: 1 KING 11:1-11

  1. King Solomon married seven hundred princesses from different kingdoms and he also had three hundred concubines
  2. All these foreign wives brought their different idols to Israel
  3. Solomon built different temples for them to worship their gods
  4. These women encouraged Solomon to worship along with them and living God. he turned his heart away from the true and
  5. Solomon did what was clearly wrong and refused to follow the Lord
  6. As his father David did and God was very angry with Solomon about this.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: God clearly told Solomon when He appeared to Him twice to obey and serve only Him but because of the King’s love for different foreign princesses, his heart was turned to other gods which is sin. Sin is anything you do that does not please God. God punishes sin which is eternal separation from Him (Romans 6:23). God does not want you to be separated from Him, so He sent His Son Jesus to take the punishment of your sins. Jesus died on the cross, was buried and rose on the third day. Because of what Jesus did, you can have your sins forgiven.

CLIMAX: Since Solomon did not obey the Lord, God decided to take the kingdom away from him

CONCLUSION: God gave it to one of his servants but in Solomon’s life time.

CHALLENGE: Even though Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived, he did not always choose to do what was wise. We each have a choice to do what is wise. We can make a wise choice to honor God. We honor God by showing Him, and everyone around us, that He is most important to us by the things we think, say, and do. Do your friends know that you love God with all of your heart, mind and soul? What are some ways you can show that God is more important than anything else?

CARRY-OVER ACTIVITY: This week, consciously give up one thing you know you cannot do without

INVITATION: The best way to get rid of addiction is to call upon Jesus as Lord and Saviour
