AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 19TH OF JUNE, 2022
LESSON FORTY TWO(42)
TOPIC: THE BLESSING OF LOVING GOD’S WORD

BIBLE TEXT: EZRA 1-10

MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 119:11 *Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

LESSON AIM: The children will learn to read and obey God’s word every day

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God wants you to love His word

INTRODUCTION:
For seventy years the Jews had been away from their home. They had to live in a country that was not their own. They lived in Babylon which was later called Persia. They had a new king called Cyrus. God worked in the heart of the new king that he decided to let the Jews return to Jerusalem. Cyrus even sent money and supplies to help the Jews rebuild the temple. A man named Zerubbabel led the people to Jerusalem and he and the people worked very hard to finish the temple.

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS:

  1. Many years passed and not all of the Jews were in Jerusalem.
  2. Some of them were still back in Persia and one of those Jews was a man named Ezra.
  3. All of his life Ezra had loved the Law of the Lord and was a teacher of the Law
  4. He decided to go to Jerusalem and help the people learn how to obey the Law of the Lord.
  5. Since the king liked Ezra, he gave him gold and silver to take along on the trip.
  6. The king told Ezra to use the gold and silver to buy sacrifices to use in the temple.
  7. He also gave Ezra enough money so that he could take even more priests and teachers back to Jerusalem.
  8. Ezra thought that he would be happy when Jerusalem but he was sad instead because he saw that the people were not obeying the Law of God.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: It is a sin not to obey the law of God. God loves you and me and wants us to obey His commandments. Not obeying God’s law is a sin. When you sin, you displease and He said, the punishment for sin is total separation from Him, Because God did not want you to be separated from Him, He sent His Son Jesus to take the punishment for your sins. Jesus died on the cross, was buried
but came alive on the third day and now lives in Him. Ezra decided to help the people to stop disobeying God

CLIMAX: Ezra taught the people and helped them learn to obey God and reminded the people that God had kept His promises to them.

CONCLUSION: Ezra taught the people and restored God’s law

CHALLENGE: God wants you to read His word every day and obey the commandments if you have already believed in Jesus as Lord and Saviour. When you read the bible, God wants you to ask yourself three questions;
1.What does it say?

  1. What does it mean?
  2. What is God saying to me?

You will ask the Holy Spirit who lives in your heart to give you the answers to these questions and what message God is sending to you.

INVITATION: If you do not know Jesus as Lord and Saviour, you cannot love His word. Ask Him into your life today (Romans 10:13)
