RCCG LOWER JUNIOR ZEAL FOR 2022/2023
AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 12TH OF MARCH, 2023
LESSON TWENTY EIGHT (28)
TOPIC: THE POWER GIFT 2: HEALING AND WORKING OF MIRACLES

BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 10:2-4; John 2:1-11; John 4:46-54
Matthew 10:2-4
[2]Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
[3]Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
[4]Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

John 2:1-11
[1]And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
[2]And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
[3]And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
[4]Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
[5]His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
[6]And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
[7]Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
[8]And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
[9]When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
[10]And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
[11]This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

John 4:46-54
[46]So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.
[47]When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
[48]Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
[49]The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
[50]Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
[51]And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.
[52]Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
[53]So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
[54]This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.

MEMORY VERSE: John 14:12a “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do;”

LESSON AIM: The children will discover how Jesus’ acts of service through the first miracle and healing pointed others to believe in him as the Son of God.

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: Jesus is the miracle worker.

INTRODUCTION:
Jesus served others through miracles and healings because He knew it would draw people into a relationship with Him. Even though Jesus was perfect and had extraordinary powers given to Him by God, we should strive to follow His example by leading others to Him when we serve.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT: MATTHEW 10:2-4,
JOHN 2:1-11, JOHN 4:46-54

  1. Jesus became known for his miracles and healings once his ministry started and people traveled many miles to see Him.
  2. The first miracle was when Jesus turned water into wine (John 2:1-11).
  3. Jesus performed this miracle at a wedding feat at Cana of Galilee
  4. Jesus performed His first healing also in the Cana of Galilee, the same place where He had turned water into wine. (John 4:46-54)
  5. An official on that day would normally send messenger, but because of the terrible situation, official came in person.
  6. And all Jesus had to do was speak and the boy was healed!
  7. In addition, the official’s entire household believed in Jesus because of the healing.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: Jesus turned the water into “good wine” because He only gives the best of Himself (as pictured when He gave up His perfect life to die on the cross) to take the punishment for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

CLIMAX: Through this first miracle and healing He showed us that even His words have power.

CONCLUSION: The healing and miracle showed Jesus cared about others, had power as Messiah, and could easily provide something of incredible worth.

CHALLENGE: When you know Jesus as Lord and Saviour, never underestimate Jesus’ ability to help you in your struggles. Jesus’ first miracle and healing showed that He truly is the Son of God and that service should be about leading others into a relationship with Him.

INVITATION: Accept Jesus and be saved to be able to experience His healings and miracles
