RCCG LOWER JUNIOR ZEAL FOR 2022/2023
AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 6TH OF AUGUST, 2023
LESSON FORTY NINE (49)
TOPIC: SANCTIFICATION

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Timothy 2:20-21
[20]But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
[21]If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

MEMORY VERSE: 2THESSALONIANS 2:13 “But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:”

LESSON AIM: The children will rely on God to be set apart to be holy after confessing and asking for forgiveness of their sins.

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God sets you apart to
be Holy and useful.

INTRODUCTION: When Paul, one of the writers of the New Testament, wrote to a young Christian named Timothy, he said, In a large house there are dishes made of gold and silver as well as some made from wood and clay. The dishes of gold and silver are used to serve the finest foods to the most important guests. The other dishes are used in the kitchen or to hold garbage. If you will cleanse your life from everything that is sinful, you will be like these fine dishes. You will be set apart and ready to be used by God for the very greatest purposes”
(2 Timothy 2:20-21)

PROGRESSION OF EVENT:

  1. What is sanctification (Holy)?
  • Being pure and set apart
  • Perfect in goodness and righteousness
  1. God is Holy
  • God Almighty is holy (Exodus 15:11)
  • No one is holy like the Lord (1 Samuel 2:2)
  1. We can be Holy
  • We are holy because God is holy (Leviticus 19:2)
  • God has chosen us to live holy lives (1 peter 1:15-16, 2 Timothy 1:9)
  • We are only holy through Jesus Christ
  1. Examples of being Holy
  • When your life reflects God’s goodness, you are Holy
  • When you display holiness, you are set apart
  • Everything God touches is holy, so a child of God has access to holiness through Jesus

GOSPEL CONNECTION: Our world is full of many things that are displeasing to God. Anything that is displeasing to God is a sin and cannot be holy. Can you think of some of the wrong and sinful things you see or hear about each day? (Give room for children to answer) When you ask forgiveness for the wrong things you have done and believe that Jesus died on the cross for you, you become a child of God. God sets you apart as His child and gives you a strong desire to be holy as He is and useful to Him. He sanctifies you (John 1:12).

CLIMAX: “From the beginning, God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth” (2 Thessalonians 2:13).

CONCLUSION: God wants each one of you to be like the beautiful containers in a wealthy home. They are kept spotlessly clean and are always ready to be used when an important guest visits or when there is a celebration. He wants your lives to be cleansed from every evil and set apart to be used only for His purposes. If you are willing, God wants to do this for you.

CHALLENGE: Even though God has set you and me apart to be holy and useful, we live ina very sinful world. Sometimes it seems very hard to be holy when you see and hear so many sinful things. Sometimes it seems very hard to be useful because there are so many bad things happening to people and you wonder how you can make a difference in their lives. But our Bible Truth reminds us that “God sets me (you) apart to be holy and useful.” And our Memory Verse tells us that *God chose you and me, and sanctified us or set us apart.”

INVITATION: Believe in Jesus and be saved (John 3:16).
