PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
A. As king Saul reigned two years over Israel, he had three thousand men with him, two thousand with him Michmash and in month
Bethel and one thousand with his son Jonathan in Gilbeah of Benjamin. Vs 1-2.
B. And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geband the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariot and six thousand horsemen. Vs 3-5.
C. The lsraelite were afraid, scattered and went to hide in caves and in thickest, and in the rocks, and in the high places and in pits while some ran to King Saul where he was in Gilead trembling. Vs 6-7.
D. While King Saul waited for Prophet Samuel to come and make a burnt offering to God, He came not to Gilead after seven days as appointed and the people scattered. And Saul said, bring therefore a burnt offering to me, and peace offering, and he offered the burnt offering Vs 8-9. (Was King Saul supposed to offer the burnt offering? No. He did that because of pressure of the people and also he felt the Prophet was delaying and as a King he can do that. Do you also do things you’re not supposed to do church? Like fighting, disturbing, noise making while praying or even doing things to impress others (showing off) that is sin. Romans 3:23. The consequence of sin is death, God does not want you to die because He loves you John 3:16. He gave you Jesus, who died for you, buried and rose again Hebrew 9:13. If you believe in Him you will be save from your punishment Acts 16:31).
E. As soon as King Saul made an end to the offering, the burnt offering Samuel came, and Samuel said what have you done” Saul said “I saw that the people were scattered from me and that you did not Come within the days appointed and the Philistines gathered together at Michmash and the Philistine come to Gilead”. Vs 10-12
(Saul made the offering to men please and out of fear of Philistines: this is vain worship/sacrifice. Do you do things for God or in church to please or impress people like singing or dancing or giving offering or praying, this is vain worship and it is unacceptable to God).

CLIMAX: Samuel said to Saul, you have done foolishly, you have not kept the commandment of the Lord. But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for himself a man after His own heart as commander over His own people, because you have not kept His Commandment Vs 3-14. (Always obey God’s commandment and follow the instruction of your parents and teachers).

CONCLUSION: And Samuel arose and went up from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin and Saul number the people present about six.

CHALLENGE: Always make sure whatever you do in the name of God and in His presence glorifies His name. Do not do anything to show off or impress others as act of gratitude to God. Always worship God in truth and in Spirit.

INVITATION: Receive Jesus your Lord and Saviour now. John 1:12
