LESSON TWENTY EIGHT (28)
TOPIC: BENEFITS OF A GRATEFUL HEART: 1
SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS (GIFT OF THE SPIRIT).

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Samuel 2:12-3:21)
1 Samuel 2:12-25
[12]Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.
[13]And the priests’ custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;
[14]And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
[15]Also before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
[16]And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.
[17]Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.
[18]But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.
[19]Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
[20]And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.
[21]And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.
[22]Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
[23]And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.
[24]Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD’S people to transgress.
[25]If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them …………………..

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Timothy 2:21a “Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the later, he will be a vessel for honour.”

LESSON AIM: God is the giver of spiritual gift.

CHILD RELATED TRUTH: To receive spiritual gift from God, show Gratitude by obedience.

INTRODUCTION: When God sees you worthy, He bestow on you spiritual blessings as we see in the case of little Samuel in our Bible text I Samuel 2:12-3:21. God want to give you spiritual gift so that you can be vessel for honour for Him, but you need to make yourself clean by saying No to sin and be grateful to God for your salvation.

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS.
A. Though Eli was priest, his sons disobeyed the Lord 2:12-17.

B. Eli spoke with his sons about their wickedness, but they did not listen 2:22-25 (Hophni and Phine has paid no attention when their father warned them about sinning against sin. The Bible says u have all sinned God, God is holy and cannot stand sin. The Bible says have all sinned Roman 3:23 but God in his great love made a way for us to be forgiven, he sent his son Jesus to take the punishment for your sin. John 3:16. Jesus died, he gave his blood, he was buried and on the third day. He rose again. He made the sacrifice for those who will listen and accept him. But Eli’s son were sinning and refuse to listen.

C. A prophet announced God’s Judgement on Eli for not disciplining his sons. v 27-36.

D. Young Samuel was also serving the Lord in the tabernacle v 13. 21 (Samuel’s mother promised God that if he would give her a son, she would give her son to serve God, God answered her prayer and she showed her Gratitude to God by return Samuel back to him Samuel grew in ways that please around him and God.)

E. Though God often spoke to men in early times before they had the Bible. He rarely did so during the year Sarnuel was a child. (God always speak to those who are ready to listen. For God to speak to you must live a pleasing life and be ready to listen. Hearing from God is a spiritual gift).

F. One night the Lord called Samuel v 2-5 (Samuel went to Eli thinking he was the one that called him, Eli sent him back to bed).

G. Two more times Samuel went to Ell, when it was actually God calling him v 6-9 (Samuel received a spiritual gift of hearing from God; God ordained him as a prophet. How will you feel to hear God call your name or speak to you? It can happen if your life gives gratitude to God.)

H. Hearing his name called again, Samuel responded to God vs 10. (Samuel was so excited to hear God today God can speak to you through his word in the Bible it may not only be by audible voice. when you read the scripture; stay alone for a while and think seriously about what you read and ask yourself these three question.

  1. What does it say?
  2. What does it mean?
  3. What is God saying to me?

When you read or listen to God’s word and you think or meditate about it God will help you to understand what he wants you to know.

I. God told Samuel he would judge Eli for his sons Wickedness v11-14

J. Fearful at first, Samuel finally told Eli God’s message as the old priest reassured him v 15-18 (Eli realized that God had chosen Samuel as a prophet and he accepted God’s message from him)

CLIMAX: Because Samuel continued to listen carefully to God was with him and spoke through him v 19.

CONCLUSION: whenever Samuel spoke for God, thing happened just as he reported, so soon all Israel know that God had chosen Samuel to be his prophet, v 20.

CHALLENGE: you too can receive spiritual gift from God if you listen to him and show him your grateful heart so talk to God, ask him for a spiritual gift.

INVITATION: To believe in the Lord Jesus as your Saviour, listen to what God says about your need for him John 5:24, Roman 10:13.
