LESSON FORTY SEVEN (47)
TOPIC: CONSEQUENCES OF AN UNGRATEFUL HEART 2: UNFRUITFULNESS

BIBLE TEXT: 2 SamueL. 6:12-23
[12]And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.
[13]And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.
[14]And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.
[15]So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
[16]And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
[17]And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
[18]And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
[19]And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.
[20]Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!
[21]And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.
[22]And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.
[23]Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 7:19 “Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.”

LESSON AIM: The children will allow the word of God to be deep in their hearts to produce fruit.

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God wants you to produce fruit.

INTRODUCTION: Children! Do you know what unfruitfulness means? (Give room for them to respond). It is barrenness which means the person or thing cannot reproduce. Let me tell you a story of a woman who lived a long time ago and she did not have children to call her mummy. She was the daughter of King Saul and her name was Michal. Michal was married to King David and she did not like the way David was always praising God. One day, David was celebrating the bringing of the ark of God to Jerusalem. He was so happy that he decided to show the whole city of Jerusalem the way he worshiped God in his palace. He danced without his royal clothes following the procession of bringing the ark of the Lord and his wife Michal was not happy so God was not happy with her and she could not have children.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. So David went and brought un the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the city of David with gladness.
  2. When those bearing the ark of the Lord had gone sixa paces, he sacrificed oxen and sheep to the Lord.
  3. David danced before the Lord with all his might wearing linen ephod when bringing the ark of the Lord into Jerusalem.
  4. David brought everyone present into the worshipa experience and the fellowship meal and Michal his wife despised him in her heart.
  5. They brought the ark of the Lord and put it in its place in the midst of the Tabernacle, then David offered peace offering and burnt offering to the Lord.
  6. After the day of great victory, David came home ton bring blessings to his whole family and great criticism, his wife Michal the daughter of Saul accused him of dancing naked.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: Despising someone is a sin anda God hates sin. We are told in the bible that God is holy anda cannot look at sin. Because God created and loves us, He does. not want us to die in our sins so He sent His Son Jesus to die in our place. Jesus died on the cross shedding His life-blood, He was buried and came alive again on the third day. If you puta your trust in Him, He will have your sins forgiven.

CLIMAX: David said it is before the Lord who appointed hima king in place of her father, and Michal was barren all the days of her life.

CONCLUSION: Michal did not honor God because she dida not join the people to celebrate the Ark of the Lord coming to Jerusalem instead she stayed back in her room looking out through the window.

CHALLENGE: Michal did not care for the presence of the Lord because she had no God in her heart. As you have put your trust in the Lord you should be in the presence of the Lord doing all His commandments. Let your behavior lead others to Jesus.

CARRY-OVER ACTIVITY: Tell others about Jesus this week to be fruitful.

INVITATION: Trust the Lord Jesus to save you so that you can be fruitful.
