AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL

LESSON FOUR (4)
TOPIC: WHO DESERVES GRATITUDE 3: TEACHERS

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Kings 11:1-12
[1]In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
[2]And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
[3]But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
[4]And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man’s heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
[5]Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.
[6]But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.
[7]Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.
[8]And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.
[9]But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.
[10]And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
[11]And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,
[12]And to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.

INTRODUCTION
Long time ago in the kingdom of Judah, there lived a priest who was a great teacher. He lived a life that impacted others in a godly way. He was faithful to God and a godly influence to a boy King and the people of Judah. When he died, he was honored by being buried with the kings in the city of David.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. Priest Jehoiada and Jehosheba, the Aunt of Joash rescued him from death by hiding him in the temple for six years because Attaliah ruthlessly killed her grandsons so that she can reign.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: Being ruthless and killing is a sin, and God punishes sin. Sin separates us from God so He made a way out for our sins to be forgiven. God sent His Son Jesus to earth to take the punishment for your sins by dying on the cross, was buried, and arose again from the dead on the third day. If you put your faith in Him as Lord and Saviour, He will forgive you your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness
(1 John 1:9).

  1. Priest Jehoiada who was Jehosheba’s husband planned to overthrow wicked Queen Attailah
  2. God used the priest to overthrow the wicked Queen Attailah by putting her to death and Joash was presented to the people and was crowned the new King.
  3. Priest Jehoiada taught King Joash to lead the nation to be faithful to God.
  4. Joash made the decision to listen and respond positively to every of Priest Jehoiada’s teaching.

CLIMAX: King Joash was faithful to God in leading his nation as he followed the godly teaching of Jehoiada.

CONCLUSION: As King Joash followed the teaching of Priest Jehoiada, he was able to lead his nation faithfully to God.

CHALLENGE: As a child who is a follower of Jesus, will you be diligent to seek God and devote your life to Him? Will you imitate the godly teachers in your life? You have the Holy Spirit living inside you giving you power to obey what God’s Word teaches. The Bible is your love letter from God teaching you to know how to live the life God wants you to live.

CARRY-OVER ACTIVITY: Ask God to send you a godly teacher that will influence your day-to-day living.

INVITATION: Today, talk to Jesus to set you free from sin and give you eternal life (John 3:16).
