RCCG LOWER JUNIOR ZEAL FOR 2023/2024
AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 28TH OF JULY, 2024
LESSON FORTY EIGHT(48)
TOPIC: CONSEQUENCES OF AN UNGRATEFUL HEART 3: DESTRUCTION (LOSS OF BLESSINGS, PHYSICAL WELL BEING)

BIBLE TEXT: Numbers 12:1-15
[1]And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
[2]And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
[3](Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
[4]And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
[5]And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
[6]And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
[7]My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
[8]With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
[9]And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
[10]And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
[11]And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
[12]Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother’s womb.
[13]And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.
[14]And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
[15]And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.

MEMORY VERSE: Mark 14:38 “Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.”

LESSON AIM: The children will know that the temptation to speak against others has consequences.

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God wants you not to speak against others.

INTRODUCTION: Have you ever felt jealous of your little brother or sister before? (Let the children contribute). Miriam and Aaron were older than Moses and felt that they were also being used by God to lead the Israelite people. Although God had used Miriam and Aaron as helpers to Moses, He appointed Moses as their leader. They did not want to follow Moses’ lead and decided to do things their way including rebelling against Moses.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. When the children of Israel were in Hazeloth, then Mariam and Aaron started grumbling and finding faults with Moses because he married an Ethiopian woman.
  2. They said, God is not only speaking to Moses, but He is also speaking through us too, the Lord heard them and was displeased.
  3. Moses was more humble than everyone else so he kept silent.
  4. All of a sudden, God’s voice rang out summoning Moses, Miriam, and Aaron to the Tabernacle.
  5. When they reached the Tabernacle, God was waiting for them in a cloud.
  6. God asked Miriam and Aaron to step forward.
  7. God scolded Miriam Aaron and reminded them that He had chosen Moses to be their leader.
  8. After He had finished speaking, the cloud with God’s presence left them.
  9. As they stood looking at one another, Moses and Aaron saw that Miriam was covered with leprosy.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: God takes sin seriously! When we sin or do wrong, it separates us from God. God does not want us to be separated from Him forever. That’s why He made a way for us to come to Him. He did this by coming to earth and dying on the cross to take the punishment for our sins. He died in our place for all our wrongs. If we trust in Jesus and ask Him to forgive us of our sins, He will take us to Heaven to live with Him someday (Romans 6:23).

CLIMAX: Aaron cried out to Moses to forgive them for speaking against him, and Moses cried to God to heal Miriam.

CONCLUSION: God heard Moses cry but He needed for the people to learn a lesson that it is wrong to disobey their leader. God gave Miriam a timeout for one week outside the camp so that she could be cleansed of leprosy.

CHALLENGE: A week must have seemed like a long time to Miriam. I’m sure she did a lot of thinking and praying during that week. When she returned to the camp I’m sure she had learned the lesson God wanted her to learn. God takes sin seriously, especially the sin of speaking against those people that are leaders over you. God expects us to respect authority. He wants us to listen and obey our parents, our teachers, and all those who have authority over us.

CARRY-OVER ACTIVITY: Throughout this week, Anytime you feel like rebelling against those leading you, pause and pray to God for help.

INVITATION: If you believe in the Lord Jesus, you shall be saved (John 3:16).
