AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 3RD OF DECEMBER, 2023
LESSON FOURTEEN (14)
TOPIC: TYPES OF GRATITUDE TOWARDS GOD 1 (ACCEPTABLE WORSHIP)
BIBLE TEXT: 2 Samuel 24:17-25
[17]And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house.
[18]And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.
[19]And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded.
[20]And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.
[21]And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
[22]And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.
[23]All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee.
[24]And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
[25]And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
MEMORY VERSE: 2 Samuel 24:24B “Neither will offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth costs me nothing.
LESSON AIM: The children will rely on God to teach them an Acceptable type of worship.
CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God wants you to worship Him through Jesus.
INTRODUCTION
Children! Can you imagine if you do something wrong and your parents give you a list of punishments for you to choose from? When David was a King in Israel he faced that choice from the Lord. The Bible tells us in 2 Samuel 24 that God moved David to take a census of the Israelites that is to count the people. King David immediately realized in his heart after he had done the census that he did wrong and asked God to forgive him. God sent Prophet Gad to King David to pick from three choices of punishment. These choices were very difficult but David chose the one he knew he could ask God to have mercy on them.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT
- King David saw that his wrong decision had destroyed his people.
- King David repented, admitted his sin, asked for forgiveness, and pleaded with God for his people.
- God sent the Prophet Gad to tell David to build an altar to offer a sacrifice on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite where the Angel had stopped.
- David obeyed God and followed His instruction and when Araunah saw King David coming, he went out to meet and bowed before him.
- Araunah asked why the visit and David told him that he needed to buy the land to build an altar and sacrifice to the Lord so that the sickness would stop.
- Araunah offered the land to David for free but the King insisted on buying it because he cannot offer to God what did not cost him.
GOSPEL CONNECTION: King David realized his mistakes and sin, and he asked for forgiveness. When we realize our mistakes and sin, we should never run away from the Lord. It’s time to run to God, and He will forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness according to 1 John 1:8,9. For this reason, God sent His only begotten Son to the world to die a shameful death on the cross so that we can have our sins forgiven if we confess them.
CLIMAX: David built an altar to the Lord and offered his sacrifice in true love and repentance. He asked God to forgive him and his people. God accepted the offering.
CONCLUSION: God forgave them as promised and stopped the plague.
CHALLENGE: As you have put your trust in Jesus when you are tempted to do Wrong, you need to think of what it will do to those you love, your families, and your friends. If you do wrong things, you need to quickly confess them and ask for forgiveness so that it will not affect others and also for God to accept your worship.
CARRY-OVER ACTIVITY: This week, you can worship God by being obedient to His Word.
INVITATION: God will only accept your worship if you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Saviour (John 3: 16).
