AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 4TH AUGUST, 2024
LESSON FORTY NINE (49)
TOPIC: CONSEQUENCES OF AN UNGRATEFUL HEART 4: (ETERNITY IN HELL)

BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 27:1-8.
[1]When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
[2]And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
[3]Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
[4]Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
[5]And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
[6]And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
[7]And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.
[8]Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 28:13 “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”

LESSON AIM: The children will rely on God to give them a heart full of gratitude.

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: Put your trust in Jesus to have a grateful heart.

INTRODUCTION:
Children! If you were to be an eyewitness to an event in the bible, which one will you choose? (Give room for answers). Today, you are going to hear about one of the most significant events in history. When Jesus was arrested, the disciples fled and forsook Him. The high priest and the people charged Him with blasphemy which is a crime punishable by death under the Jewish law but under the Roman law, the Jews do not have the power to put anyone to death for blasphemy. The Jewish leaders had to find a crime punishable by death under Roman law where Jesus could be punished.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. The Jewish leaders delivered Jesus to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea.
  2. When Judas saw this, he regretted his choice to betray Jesus.
  3. Judas sought to return the money he had received from the Jewish leaders.
  4. Judas ended his life because the Jewish leader refused to take the money back.
  5. Because the silver pieces were the price of blood and therefore not lawful to put it back into the treasury.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: Jesus’ blood was only worth 30 pieces of silver to Judas. That shedding of blood by Jesus is the only way you can be saved from every wrong-doing you have ever done when you put your trust in Jesus. It is for this cause that God sent His beloved perfect Son Jesus who knew no sin into the world to die for mankind to be saved. It took the love Jesus has for you and me to die physically and spiritually to be able to save us from our sins.

CLIMAX: The Jewish leaders used the money to purchase the potter’s field, where strangers were to be buried.

CONCLUSION: This is the fulfillment of the prophecy found in Zechariah 11:11-12.

CHALLENGE: Judas was a follower of Jesus but did noth know that Jesus could forgive sins. Judas was remorseful but not repentant. He was sorry for his sins but did not bring it to Christ. He wanted to settle his guilt his own way. If you puta your trust in Jesus as Lord and Saviour, it is good for you to confess your sins if you are guilty and ask God for forgiveness (1 John 1:9).

CARRY-OVER ACTIVITY: Always confess your sins when you do wrong.

INVITATION: Jesus Christ is your Saviour, put your trust in Him today and be saved (John 5:24).
