SUNDAY 14TH OF APRIL, 2024
LESSON THIRTY THREE (33)
TOPIC: BENEFITS OF A GRATEFUL HEART 5: SWIFT ANSWERS TO PRAYER

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Samuel 1:9-19
[9]So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.
[10]And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.
[11]And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
[12]And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.
[13]Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
[14]And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
[15]And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.
[16]Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
[17]Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
[18]And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.
[19]And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

MEMORY VERSE: Matthew 6:9; After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”

LESSON AIM: God answers prayers offer out of the heart of gratitude.

CENTRAL TRUTH: God wants you to be grateful in the place of prayers.

INTRODUCTION: Prayer is a prerequisite for processing and possessing anything from God. It is the act of asking and receiving from God. Jesus taught and showed us the example and importance of prayer offered from the heart of gratitude.

STUDY GUIDE
A. CALL AND COMMAND TO PRAY Matt7:7-8, Lk18:1; Jer 33:3
God always wants to commune with man and prayer is the avenue created for this to happen. We must therefore make the most of this opportunity in order to experience great and mighty things.
B. CHRIST EXEMPLARY LIFE OF PRAYER
1) Jesus made prayer his first daily activity Mk1:35
2) Jesus taught his disciples how to pray Mat6:9-13
3) Jesus commanded us to pray Mat7:7; Jh16:23-24
4) Jesus prayed in difficult situations Matt14:32
5) Jesus prayed for us Jh17:20

C. CORRECT ATTITUDE OF PRAYER

  1. It must be directed to God Matt6:9, Jh16:23
  2. It must be done in forgiveness Mk11:25
  3. It must be done in Faith Mk11:24
  4. It must be always Lk18:1, 1thess5:17
  5. It must be continued until answer comes LK18:7-8
  6. It must be done with the heart of gratitude. Mathew 6:9

D. POSTURES OF PRAYER THAT ALSO SHOW YOUR LEVEL OF GRATITUDE TO GOD:

  1. Lying Prostrate before God: it symbolizes humility.
    a. It is an acknowledgement of our total unworthiness. Genesis 17:3
    b. It is recognition of the need for God’s mercy. Luke 5:12
    c. It is a right response to a serious crisis. Numbers 20:26
  2. Kneeling Before God:
    a. It acknowledges the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:9-11
    b. It is a sign of earnest appeal, 1 Kings 8:54
    c. It is a sign of personal humility. Psalm 95:6 3. Bowing before God:
    i. It is a sign of reverence.
ii. It is an expression of worship. Genesis 24:52.
