TOPIC: REASONS TO BE GRATEFUL TO GOD 1:
(GOD’S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE)

BIBLE TEXT: Psalm 51, Psalm 50

MEMORY VERSE: John 15:13 -Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

LESSON AIM: To lean how much God loves us.

CENTRE TRUTH: The love of God is real and can be seen.

INTRODUCTION: Some people love because of what they stand to gain. For example, a boy may claim he loves a girl just because he wants to defile her. After the deed is done, this same boy may hate the girl to the extent he does not want to set his eyes on the girl e.g. Amnon’s love for Tamar (| Samuel 12:15). But God loved us while we were sinners.

STUDY GUIDE
A. WHAT IS GOD’S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE?
a. God’s unconditional love is perfect.
b. It adds no sorrow.
c. It is faithful.
d. It is real.
e. It can be seen.
f. It has no limitations.
g. This love brought him down from heaven.
h. It is peaceful.

B. HOW DID GOD DEMONSTRATE HIS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE?
i. He gave His life for us. Romans 5:8.
j. He sent His only begotten son to die for us (John 3:16).
k. He took our shame (Mark 15:21-35).
l. He that has no sin took our sin. Matthew 8:17.
m. He imputed righteousness on us. Romans 4:6.
n. He translated us from the kingdom of darkness to light. Colossians 1:13.
o. Through His mercy. Matthew 9:13.
p. By supplying all our needs. Philippians 4:19.

C. CHARACTERISTICS OF UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
Read the following passage: 1 Corinthians 13:1-8

1. Love doesn’t play the victim role or blame others.
2. Love includes letting go.
3. Love has no room for jealousy.
4. Love is the absence of fear.
5. Love is an action, not just a feeling.

D. WHAT QUALIFIES YOU?

1. Being born again, John 3:16 1 John 4:9.
2. Stay away from sin. 1 Timothy 6:11-12.
3. Live through Him. 1John 4:9.
4. Study the word of God. 2 Timothy 3:14-17.
5. Allow Him to guide you in all things. Romans 8:14.
6. Live Holy. 1 Timothy 4:12.
7. Love everyone around you. 1 John 3:14.
8. Show gratitude to God.

E. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF THOSE THAT EXPERIENCE GOD’S.UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
a. Apostle Paul-1 Timothy 1:15.
b. The Samaritan woman- John 4:39.
c. Ruth the Moabite- Ruth 4:13.
d. The mad man of Gadarene-Luke 8:39.
e. The Jailer- Acts 16:39-32.

LIFE APPLICATION: God’s unconditional love can never be overemphasized. For his unconditional love to work for you, you must reciprocate the love by surrendering your life to God and walking in love daily. The Bible says, owe no man nothing but love.

CONCLUSION: Love brought God down from heaven. Greater love has no man than this that a man lays down his life for his friends. The product of love translated us from the kingdom of darkness into His marvelous light.
