TOPIC: THE WORD OF GOD
BIBLE TEXTS: John 17:16-19; Psalms 119:11

MEMORY VERSE Psalm 119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”

LESSON AIM: To understand the word of God, how to use it and the benefits we get from the word of God

INTRODUCTION: The bible is the written word of God, containing God’s T teachings, promises, and wisdom for His creations. It’s a timeless guidebook for living a life aligned with God’s will and purpose. It reveals God’s character, His love for you, and His plans and purpose for you. 2 Tim 3:16-17 tells us that Scripture is given by Gods inspiration to man and is profitable for the sole purpose of growth and maturity in good works (character).

A. WHAT TO DO WITH THE WORD OF GOD Joshua 1:8

  1. Deliberately study of the word of God. 2 Timothy 2:15
  2. Meditate on the word of God daily. Joshua 1:8, Ps 1:2-3
  3. Write it down, memorize it, paste it Deut. 6:6-9
  4. Believe the word of God for yourself Luke 1:45
  5. Practice the word (Observe to do according as is written therein) Joshua 1:8

B. HOW TO STUDY THE WORD OF GOD?
I. Pray before and after: Begin your study with prayer, asking God to illuminate His word and speak to you through it, and end your study with prayer, asking God to help you be a doer of His word.
ii. Meditate: Take time to reflect on what you’ve read, asking yourself how you can apply it to your life and seek God’s guidance in prayer.
iii. Have a bible reading calendar: Bible reading calendar helps you to maintain discipline and consistency in reading the Bible daily.
iv. Have a Bible reading strategy that can work for you e.g. SOAP method.
v. Use Bible study tools: Use study aids like concordances, commentaries, and study guides to deepen your understanding of the text.

The S.O.A.P. method of Bible study is an acronym that stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Here’s a breakdown of each step:

  • Scripture: Choose a portion of the bible to read. It could be a single verse, a few verses, or a longer passage depending on your preference. Write down the passage you have chosen.
  • Observation: Meditate on the passage and write down observations about what it says. Consider things like the context of the passage, the characters involved, the events described, any repeated words or themes, and anything else that stands out to you.
  • Application: Think about how the passage applies to your life personally. Write down specific ways you can apply what you have learned to your own life.
  • Prayer: Finally, pray about what you have read and how you have been challenged to apply it. Ask God for help in living out the truths you have discovered and for guidance in your spiritual journey.

C. HOW THE WORD OF GOD WORKS? 2 Tim 3:16-17
i. By doctrine
ii. By reprove
iii. for conviction [of sin]
iv. for correction [of error and restoration to obedience]
v. for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately-behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]

D. IMPORTANCE OF THE WORD OF GOD

  1. For examples and guidance: 1 Corinth 10:11. The word of God provides guidance and direction for life’s decisions, helping us navigate challenges and uncertainties.
  2. For correction and reproof: 2 Timothy 3:16-17. Edification and life transformation: Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the word of God transforms our hearts and minds, shaping you into Christ like person.
  3. For strength: The word of God offers strength and encouragement during difficult times, reminding us of God’s faithfulness and promises.
  4. For Hope: The Bible offers hope for the future, assuring you of God’s love, forgiveness, and eternal life through Jesus Christ.

CONCLUSION: The word of God is not just a book of ancient stories; it’s a living and powerful message that speaks directly to our hearts and lives. Therefore, approach it with the desire to be transformed by its truth.

LESSON EIGHT (08)
TOPIC: VISION
BIBLE TEXT: Habakkuk 2:1-3; Prov. 29:18, 2 Corinthians 4:18..

MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 29:18a “Where there is no vision, the people perish”

LESSON AIM: To understand what is vision, how to vision and what to do when we have vision. receive

INTRODUCTION: Vision is a picture or assignment given to you in your spirit, of what God wants you to do for Him. Vision is a compelling mental image of a future outcome or goal, painted from the scripture, which motivates and guides actions towards its realization. Vision is not Ambition. Ambition does not originate from God. It is a strong desire in you to get something done. Ambition is all about YOU. It focuses solely on personal success, personal plans and goals, which are specific actions and objectives within a larger vision. God is the sole source of vision Jeremiah 29:, Luke 14:28.

A. THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT VISION (Habakkuk 2:1-3)
i. It originates from God. Therefore, it is all about God.
ii. Wait upon God, to hear what He will say. Habakkuk 2:1
iii. Make it plain. Write it down plainly, clearly, and specifically. Habakkuk 2:2
iv. It is for an appointed time. Wait for the right time. Habakkuk 2:3
v. Pray about it, and run it with passion.

B. HOW TO RECEIVE VISION
i. From God. Jeremiah 29:11.
ii. Through His word.
iii.Through His inner witness in you.
iv. Through His servants (But this must align with His word).

C. WHAT TO DO WITH VISION When you have a vision, it’s essential to:
i. Pray about it
ii. Write it Down: Capture your vision in writing, create a vision statement or vision board to keep it front and center in your mind.
iii. Break it Down: Break your vision into smaller, actionable steps, set short term goals and milestones to track your progress.

D. COMPONENT OF VISION STATEMENT
Short and long-term goals: One of the key components of a personal vision statement is your short and long-term goals. Long-term goals relate to your overall professional development, while your short-term goals can serve as steps that help you get there. Prov. 16:3

Values: Knowing your personal values and principles may help you determine how to achieve your goal. Values might include honesty, creativity, loyalty, open-mindedness or community.

Interests: Adding your interests or passions to your personal statement can help remind you about the reasons behind your goals. For example, your passion for helping others might inspire you to set a long-term goal of becoming a firefighter or nonprofit director.

Skills: Include your skills in your personal vision statement to help evaluate what your strengths are and what abilities you might want to work on.

Difference you hope to make: Consider ultimately the value that you want to bring to people around you, community or even the world.

E. OBSTACLES TO LIVING OUT THE VISION FROM GOD FOR YOUR LIFE
As you work toward taking steps to align with God’s vision for your life, you’ll encounter obstacles in the world and within yourself. Those within your own spirit, heart and mind will be the easiest to fall victim to as well as the hardest to overcome.
i. Comparison to others can cause you to do what wasn’t meant for you or won’t work for you.
ii. Temptations and messages from the world can lead you astray from God’s values
!!! The company you keep can cause you to conform to their habits and lifestyles
iv. Distractions can cause you to choose what’s good over what’s actually best
v. Fear can cause you to resist change.
vi. Not wanting to be inconvenienced can keep you from taking on new challenges
vii. Choosing not to get out of your comfort zone can stop you before you even start.

CONCLUSION: “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” – Proverbs 16:3.

LESSON NINE (09)
TOPIC: PURPOSEFUL LIVING
BIBLE TEXTS: Jeremiah 1:1-5

MEMORY VERSE: Ephesians 2:10. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them”.

LESSON AIM: To understand purpose and how to live a purposeful life.

INTRODUCTION: Purpose is very essential in life. It is the true yardstick for measuring success. It entails living intentionally and aligning your actions with a greater sense of meaning and direction. When you know the reason WHY you are, WHO you are, and WHAT you are meant to do, your life ceases to be a mere experiment, rather you will be living with more conviction, and your life becomes more meaningful. It is essential for you to discover your purpose so that you can live an effective, fulfilling and rewarding life.

A. WHAT IS PURPOSE? Proverbs 19:21
i. Purpose is the reason for which something is done of created.
ii. Purpose defines your life, not in terms of what you think, but what God thinks.
iii. Purpose is the need or reason in the mind of a manufacturer (God) for producing a product (You)

B. HOW TO DISCOVER PURPOSE
i. Prayer of inquiry, Genesis 25:22-24
ii. Total dependence on the Holy Spirit Colossians 1:16.
iii. Jesus’ dependence on His father enabled Him to accomplish His purpose on earth at a short time.
iv. God’s word. Ps 119:105

C. HINDRANCES TO PURPOSEFUL LIVING
i. Uncertainty: Some persons are good at so many things (multitalented), as such they are not certain about what exactly they are called to do.
ii. Wrong beliefs: Your perception about yourself or the stories people have told you can hinder you from discovering and living purposefully.
iii. Self-reliance: Relying on yourself will ever reveal life’s purpose. It is God who directs the lives of His creations.
iv. Status Quo: This means settling for the state of things, the way things are as opposed to the way they could be.
v. Sin

D. HOW TO LIVE PURPOSEFULLY
I. Have a relationship with God. Judges 11:6,8,11,29
ii. Be determined. Daniel 1-8
ii. Seek counsel and obey instruction. Esther 2:7,9,15; 4:13-14,16, Proverbs 16:20-25
iv. Maximize your potentials. Matthew 25:14-34, Genesis 39:4, 22:41:33,40
v. Make your life’s purpose a priority.
vi. Set goals, make decisions, and take actions that align with your life’s purpose
vii. Always pray and stay connected to God. 1 Tess 5:16-18
viii. Find inspiration every day. 1 Corinthians 10:31

E. LESSONS FROM SOME PEOPLE WHO DISCOVERED PURPOSE
Moses: (Exodus 3-4) called by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses discovered his purpose and devoted his life to fulfilling God’s plan.

David: (1 Samuel 16-31) anointed as king of Israel, David lived purposefully by seeking God’s guidance and leading his people with wisdom and integrity.

Paul: (Acts 9:1-31) formerly known as Saul, Paul discovered his purpose through a transformative encounter with Jesus Christ and became a fervent preacher of the gospel.

Esther: (Esther) and so many others.

LESSONS FROM THEIR EXAMPLES

  1. Trust in God’s guidance and providence.
  2. Be willing to step out in faith, even in the face of challenges.
  3. Use your gifts and talents to serve others and glorify God.
  4. Remain steadfast and obedient to God’s calling. regardless of circumstances. – Romans 8:28.

CONCLUSION: Living is being alive and fulfilling purpose. Living purposefully is a transformative journey that involves discovering one’s purpose, aligning with divine guidance, and making intentional choices to fulfill that purpose. There is no purposeful living outside God. Acts 17:28.

LESSON TEN (10)
TOPIC: GOAL SETTING: SMART(ER)
BIBLE TEXT: Hab.2:2-3

MEMORY VERSE: 14:28; “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it”?

LESSON AIM: To understand importance of goal getting in our lives and how to set achievable goals.

INTRODUCTION: Goals serve as the roadmap to our purpose, visions, and Tambitions, guiding our actions and decisions towards desired outcomes. A goal is a desired result or outcome that a person envisions and is committed to achieving. It provides direction, motivation, and a sense of purpose. Goal setting is the process of identifying specific objectives and creating a plan to achieve them. It involves setting clear, achievable targets and establishing a timeline for their accomplishment. Every area of our lives (spiritual, academic, mental, family, physical, social and financial) requires goal setting. In this study, we shall consider why we need to set goals, components of a goal and how to set a “SMART(ER)” goal.

A. WHY DO I NEED TO SET GOALS?
i. God is a master planner (creation story) Gen 1:1-27.
ii. Goal setting gives you focus and direction. A focused person achieves more in life (convex lens).
iii. It helps you know what you want to achieve, what resources and efforts you need to reach your goals.
iv. It helps you identify your priorities and keeps them at the forefront of your mind.
v. It keeps you on course and motivates you to keep going despite the challenges.
vi.It removes a lot of stress and clears off ambiguity from your life.
vii.It helps you review what is not fitting so you can make amends where necessary.
viii. It makes it easier for you to evaluate yourself and track your progress. Proverbs 21:5.

B. COMPONENTS OF A GOAL
The components of an achievable goal must be “SMARTER”. Let’s examine the full meaning of this word:

v. Ensure your goals are meaningful and aligned with your values and purpose.
vi. Establish deadlines to create a sense of urgency and accountability.
vii. Regularly review and adjust your goals based on your progress and changing circumstances. Romans 12:2

CONCLUSION: Goal setting is a fundamental practice that empowers you to turn your dreams into reality. When you set smarter goals, and take deliberate and consistent steps towards accomplishing them, you will live purposefully and successfully.

TOPIC: FAITH

INTRODUCTION: Have you ever wondered what it means to have faith? In a world filled with uncertainties, faith serves as our anchor, providing strength, hope, and guidance. Let us dive into the essence of faith and discover how it can shape our lives.

A. WHAT IS FAITH? Heb 11:1
Faith is the confident assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. It’s believing in God’s promises and trusting His character, even when circumstances may seem uncertain or challenging.

B. WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT FAITH?
i. Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
ii. Romans 10:17: “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
iii. Matthew 17:20: “For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

C. HOW DOES FAITH WORK?
i. Believe: Faith begins with believing in God’s existence, His goodness, and His promises.
ii. Trust: It involves trusting God’s plan, even when we don’t understand it, and surrendering control to Him, and never doubting.
iii. Action: Faith requires action; it’s not passive. It’s stepping out in obedience to God’s word and His leading.
iv. Persistence: Faith involves perseverance, trusting God’s timing and remaining steadfast in prayer and hope.

D. EXAMPLE OF YOUNG PEOPLE WHO EXERCISED FAITH IN THE BIBLE
i. David: As a teenager, David demonstrated incredible faith when he faced the giant Goliath, trusting in God’s strength to deliver victory (1 Samuel 17).
ii. Daniel: Daniel’s unwavering faith as a young man led him to stand firm in his convictions, even in the face of persecution and danger in Babylon Dan 6: 10-16.
iii. Esther: Esther 4:16
iv. Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego: Dan 3:16-18

We can learn from these biblical examples to be courageous, have Integrity and Depend on God.

E. HOW TO APPLY FAITH IN GOD IN OUR EVERYDAY LIFE
i. Prayer: Develop a consistent prayer life, bringing our hopes, fears, and desires before God.
ii. Study: Dive into God’s word regularly, seeking wisdom and guidance for your life.
iii. Fellowship: Surround ourselves with other believers who can encourage and support you in your faith journey.
iv. Boldness: Step out in boldness, share our faith with others and living out God’s love in tangible ways.

CONCLUSION: Faith isn’t just a concept; it’s a way of life a journey of trusting and believing in the goodness and faithfulness of God. As you walk this path of faith, may you be inspired by the examples of those who have gone before you and empowered by the assurance of God’s promises. Anchor your life in faith, knowing that with God, all things are possible.
