LESSON AIM: To let the children understand that no one can please God without faith.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Faith in God give accurate answer to your prayers

INTRODUCTION: The Bible says that without faith we can’t please God and that the goal of our faith is salvation. God wants us to have living faith so we can grow in our relationship with Him. So what is faith, and how do we receive it and grow in it? Faith goes beyond what we can perceive with our physical senses, so it does not work by the rules of science. Faith allows us to believe that the invisible God can do what is physically impossible. In that sense, faith is built and grows on a spiritual plane, not a physical or scientific one. But that doesn’t mean observation, science and rational thinking aren’t part of how we come to believe in our miraculous Creator God in the first place. In fact, there is no contradiction or conflict between godly faith and true science. After all, since God is the Creator of everything, science is the study of God’s creation. In today’s lesson we will discuss the essence of having faith and how faith can help us receive answer to our prayers.

STUDY GUIDE
A. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE FAITH?
Faith. It’s a word we hear thrown around all the time. Keep the faith. Walking in faith. Having faith. So what is faith? Faith has several different definitions.

  1. Complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
  2. Strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than truth.
  3. A system of religious belief.
  4. A firmly held belief or theory
The Bible says that faith is confidence in what we hope for and the assurance that the Lord is working, even though we cannot see it. Faith knows that no matter what the situation, in our lives or someone else’s, that the Lord is working in it. Heb. 11

B. HOW TO GROW IN FAITH?
There are several different ways we can grow in our faith.

  1. Ask God to increase your faith. If you are struggling in your faith, ask Him for more of It. He will be glad to bestow it through the Holy Spirit.
  2. Focus on obeying God. No one is perfect and we all make mistakes, but if you focus on following God’s word and commands, your faith will grow naturally.
  3. Spend time reading and hearing God’s word. Spend time every day reading God’s word and soak it it into your heart and mind.

C. WHERE DOES FAITH COME FROM Ephesians 2:8-9
i. Faith can only come from a new heart, regenerated by God;
ii. therefore, faith is a gift from God.
iii. It is the unique way that God uses to bring salvation to his people.
iv. We strengthen our faith by reading the Bible and hearing the gospel.
v. The more we immerse ourselves in truth, the more our confidence grows.
vi. Everyone who is saved has been gifted faith.
vii. It is the ability to believe God is who He says He is, trusting Him in all things for all things.
viii. Faith also helps to combat unbelief and motivates us to do what God desires us to do. Not only do we grow our faith by reading Scripture and praying in our own time, but also by hearing the message in church with other believers.

D. EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE IN THE BIBLE WHO HAD FAITH

  1. Mary-Luke 1:35-38
    ii. Abraham-Genesis 22:1-8
iii. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: Gen. 3:27-28
    iv. Esther: Esther 4:12-16.

CONCLUSION: The truest act of faith, which is made possible by God’s gift of grace to us, is complete trust in the Lord through every circumstance, even when we do not understand why something is happening or not happening. It’s trusting God even though you don’t know where He’s leading you or what the outcome will be. Genuine faith will be manifested in good works; for good works are the fruits of faith.

LIFE APPLICATION: True faith, which relies wholly upon Christ, will be manifested by obedience to all the requirements of God.

INVITATION: Jesus is calling you Into salvation today.
