[2]And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
[3]For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

MEMORY VERSE: Luke 14:28 “For which of you. intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

LESSON AIM: To help us know how to set SMART goals.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Without SMART goals, our vision mwould only be like wishes.

INTRODUCTION: Setting goals that will help you achieve W your vision is important because there is a process in the Yo attainment of our dreams. It won’t happen by default or like some people say, ‘Que sera, sera’ meaning ‘whatever will be, will be’. An intentional effort is required from you; hence your goals must be SMART.

SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Let’s discuss further to know how to set SMART goals.

STUDY GUIDE:
A). WHAT IS GOAL SETTING?
Goal setting is not just about dreaming but turning those dreams into actionable plans that propel us towards success. Genesis 41:1-36 illustrates Joseph’s strategic planning during the famine, highlighting the importance of setting goals in achieving long-term visions. Similarly, Luke 14:28-30 emphasizes the significance of planning and counting the cost before embarking on a project.

B). WHYSET GOALS?

  1. God sets goals: Just as God sets goals for His creation and works purposefully towards their fulfillment, we too should set goals to align with His plans for us.
  2. Successful people set goals: Throughout history, successful individuals have demonstrated the power of goal-setting in achieving their dreams.
  3. Goals help us align our focus: By setting clear objectives, we can direct our efforts towards what truly matters, avoiding distractions and maximizing our potential.
  4. Goals help us set priorities: By prioritizing our goals, we can allocate our time and resources effectively, ensuring progress in all aspects of life.

C) WHAT ARE SMART GOALS?

  1. S- Specific: set goals that clearly define the exact thing you want to achieve. Habakkuk 2:2 encourages us to write down our vision and make it clear.

For example:
Vague goal: Learn data analysis

Specific goal: Complete an online course on analyzing data using SQL & Power BI within six months, then volunteer in a Fintech company to gain experience.

M-Measurable: Your goals are measurable when there is a specific metric or criterion that allows you to track your progress.

For example:
Non-measurable goal: Read daily

Measurable goal: Read five Chapters of the Bible daily to finish reading my Bible in a year.

  1. A- Achievable: Your goals are achievable when they are realistic within your current capacity and resources.

For example:
Unachievable Goal: Learn how to speak a new language fluently in one month

Achievable Goal: Spend 1 hour daily on Duolingo learning and practicing French language for six months OR Go to a French school and learn the language for a year.

  1. R- Relevant: Your goal must be aligned with your skills, interests, and overall objectives. Choose goals that matter to you and are within your capabilities and understanding.

For example:
General Goal: Learn a new skill.

Relevant Goal: Take a Human Resources Management certification course every semester holiday, which is relevant to my career aspirations to be a Human Resource Manager.

  1. T- Time-bound. Goals must be time-specifie, indicating the time of completion of that specific goal.

The ideas we have can fly away if we don’t have them planned within a timeframe for execution. Setting timelines to our goals gives us a sense of urgency; it keeps us accountable and focused.

For example:
General Goal: Win souls for Christ.

Time-bound goal: Vision 2032: 1:1:1 One member winning one soul in one month and establishing them in Church. Total of at least 12 souls per member per year, which will lead to a 400% increase in the attendance of RCCG worldwide.

Additional example:
Time-bound goal: “By December 31st of this year, I will have completed and submitted my application for three different internship opportunities in my desired field, ensuring I take proactive steps towards gaining valuable experience and furthering my career goals.”

LIFE APPLICATION: Imagine if Pharaoh had not taken any step in implementing Joseph’s idea to store food during abundance. What would have happened to Egypt? Start setting SMART goals for all aspects of your life in which you want to see tangible progress over time. Proverbs 24:3-4 encourages us to build our house through wisdom and understanding.

ASSIGNMENT: Focus on one aspect of your life, like your Academics, spiritual growth or career, and set SMART goals on it.

CONCLUSION: Having and itself, taking steps daily to ensure that it is achieved is important

Philippians 3:13 encourages us to forget what is behind and press on towards the goal. Let’s commit to setting SMART goals and working diligently towards their fulfillment, trusting in God’s guidance and provision every step of the way.
