    That God, the Father Almighty,
    Poured His blessing on Thee
  5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,

    I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?

BIBLE PASSAGE: LUKE 19:1-10

1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

INTRODUCTION
‘Soteria’ is the Greek word for salvation from the root word, ‘Sozo’ which means to save, rescue, or deliver. It describes the rescue or deliverance from danger, destruction, and peril. Sometimes, the Bible uses the word saved or salvation to refer to temporal, physical deliverance, such as Paul’s deliverance from prison (Philippians 1:19). More often, the word “salvation” concerns an eternal, spiritual deliverance (Acts 16:30-31). Jesus equated being saved with entering the kingdom of God (Matthew 19:24-25). Other concepts that are inherent in salvation include restoration to a state of safety, soundness, health, and well-being as well as preservation from the danger of destruction.

LESSON OUTLINE

  1. THE MYSTERIES OF SALVATION
  2. HINDRANCE TO AND BENEFITS OF SALVATION

THE MYSTERIES OF SALVATION

The salvation experience occurs in phases. These phases come at different times in the life of a believer. Instant salvation is the first phase of salvation when anyone confesses Christ as Lord and Savior. It described everyone’s chance at being saved (2Corinthians 6:2). It is what everyone has been called unto (Titus 2:11-12). A price has been paid for it through the blood of Jesus (1John 1:7-9) and it comes by grace (Ephesians 2:8) through faith and the Son of God (Acts 4:10-12). It is the prerequisite for the other phase of salvation (John 3:16-17).

The ultimate salvation is the final phase of salvation. It requires that believers play a part (Philippians 2:12) as they live for God and avoid distractions (Hebrews 12:1-2). Instant salvation is the ‘matriculation’ of sin to begin a new Life in Christ (2Corinthians 5:17) while the ultimate salvation is the ‘convocation’ of the saints as life-members of the ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ (Matthew 5:20). The ultimate salvation require a strong partnership with the Holy Spirit (Zech 4:6). The individual who has being saved must endure to the end for the ultimate salvation that gives everlasting life with Jesus Christ (Matthew 10:22).

HINDRANCE TO AND BENEFITS OF SALVATION

Satan has blinded and hardened the hearts of some people to the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ (2Corinthians 4:4). Several things could also hinder a man from receiving the salvation made available by God through Jesus Christ. These include: fear of persecution (2Timothy 3:12); Comfort and riches (Matthew 19:21-22; 1Timothy 6:9-10); Much intellectual/human achievement (1Timothy 6:20-21); False security (Isaiah 31:1); Self-righteousness (Romans 10:3); Worldliness (James 4:4); Lustful adventure and desires (1Kings 11:3-4; Ecclesiastes 2:9-11); Power and position (Acts 26:28); Covetousness (Luke 12:15); Desire to please men (1Samuel 15:24-26); Religious activities (Matthew 23:13); Besetting sins (Hebrews 12:1); Ignorance (1Timothy 1:12). However, there are several benefits attached to being saved by the Lord Jesus Christ. When we accept God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, we receive: Redemption from the slave-market of sin (Titus 2:14); Forgiveness of sin (Ephesians 1:7); The promise of eternal Life (Revelation 5:9-10); Righteousness of God (Romans 5:17); Freedom from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13); Adoption into God’s family (Gal. 4:5); Peace with God (Colossians 1:18-20); The indwelling of the Holy Spirit (1Corinthians 6:19-20).

CONCLUSION
If perhaps, you have not embraced instant salvation, you need to do so now. The ultimate salvation is achievable despite all challenges of life.
