BIBLE PASSAGE: Psalms 89:11-18 KJV (RCCG Sunday School TEACHER’s Manual 15 September 2019)

11 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.

12 The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.

13 Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.

14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.

15 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.

16 In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.

17 For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.

18 For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.

MEMORY VERSE: “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” – Philippians 4:4 (scroll down for RCCG Sunday School 15 September 2019 HYMN)

LESSON INTRODUCTION: There are many portions of the Bible where believers are admonished to praise the Lord in singing (Ps. 95:1) and dancing (Ps. 149:3), with clapping (Ps. 47:1), with the use of musical instruments (Ps. 150:1-6; Eph. 5:19) and in the Holy Spirit (1Cor. 14:15. In addition, believers must also learn to rejoice always (1 Thess. 5:16; Phil. 4:4).

2 LESSON OUTLINES

LESSON OUTLINE 1: ALL DAY LONG AND EVERMORE.

Question 1: Why is it important to rejoice all day long?

Answer: It is important to rejoice all day long because:

1 The merciful God is so mindful of man (Ps. 8:4).

2 He visits man every morning (Job 7:18-19).

3 He visited Adam and Eve in the cool of the day (Gen. 3:8)

Question 2: What should a believer’s response to God’s special love and concern?

Answer: God’s special love and concern should be immediately reciprocated with rejoicing (adoration, worship and singing).

Question 3: When should we then rejoice?

Answer:

1. In the morning (Ps. 59:16)

2. In the day time. (Ps. 42:8)

3. In the evening. (Ps. 134:1)

4. All day long. (Ps. 89:16)

5. Believers must rejoice as long as there is life (Ps. 34:1; 104:33)

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: How can believers rejoice all day long?

LESSON OUTLINE 2: IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES TILL ETERNITY

Question 1: What are the circumstances that should warrant rejoicing?

Answer: God has not called the believer into a life of shame, trouble and confusion (Jer. 29:11; 3 John 2). However, it is not impossible for believers to face challenges once in a while. Therefore:

a. In all situations or circumstances, God commands ‘the work of His hands’ to praise Him (1 Thess. 5:18).

b. Whether in fire or deep waters, God promises to be with the believer (Isa. 43:1-3).

c. He will be there in famine, persecution, imprisonment, poverty, loss and fiery trials. His command is that His name is to be praised always (2 Cor. 6:10; 1 Peter 4:12-13; John 16:33).

Question 2: To what extent should believers rejoice and why?

Answer: The believers rejoicing should last till eternity. This is because:

a. Whatever rejoicing or praise/worship rendered to God in this world is a child’s play compared to what operates in Heaven, where there is no measuring of time.

b. The heavenly language is the language of worship only- HALLELUJAH. This is what the angels say in Heaven as they worship the Ancient of Days, the Holy One in His Majesty and glory (Luke 2:13-14; Rev. 5:11-12; Rev. 7:11-12).

c. When Christians make it to Heaven and the lost glory is restored, the saints without doubt shall have new songs, if only to praise the Rock of their salvation (Rev. 19:1-7).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: What are the different situations or circumstances that can make a believer not to rejoice?

SUMMARY: Irrespective of the time of day, condition or life situations, believers are commanded to rejoice always in the Lord.

CONCLUSION: Your present situation is not without the knowledge of the All-knowing God. God is surely greater than the situation. The Holy Spirit is reminding you today to rejoice always, because this may be the only weapon against your predicament.

EVALUATION: Teacher should ask the student to list the timing and circumstances that allow for rejoicing.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, let Your joy continue to be our strength in Jesus’ name. (Neh. 8:10).

ASSIGNMENT: Mention five (5) circumstances that may not make us rejoice.
