BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Peter 5:8-9 KJV (RCCG Sunday School TEACHER’s Manual 23 June 2019)

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

MEMORY VERSE: “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” – 2 Corinthians 11:14 (scroll down for RCCG Sunday School 23 June 2019 HYMN)

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Every military commander tries to find out as much of the enemy as possible. This is why he always sends to collect information about the enemy (Numbers 13:17; Joshua 2:1). Similarly, knowledge of our adversary is very precious to us since we too are engaged in life long battle with the devil. That enemy (adversary) is Satan or the devil.

TEXT REVIEW: 1 PETER 5:8-9.

The truth in this passage about Satan’s mission are:
i. Satan is believers’ adversary. Verse 8
ii. Satan is walking to and fro, here and there, restless. Verse 8.
iii. Satan is looking for victims to kill. Verse 8.

The solutions to his wiles and missions are as follows:
i. Believers are to be sober. V.8.
ii. Believers are to be vigilant. V.8.
iii. Believers are to resist him (Satan) steadfastly. V.9.
iv. Believers should not feel that he/she alone is being afflicted. Satan is afflicting all believers in one way or the other. But God has given us grace and strength to make us stand string against him and be perfect. 1 Peter 5:9-10.
