OPENING PRAYER: Father, help me to understand what the Holy Spirit can do. (Scroll down for RCCG Sunday School 9 January 2022 HYMN)
MEMORY VERSE: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” – Acts 1:8
BIBLE PASSAGE: Acts 1:1-8 (KJV)
1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

LESSON OUTLINES:
LESSON OUTLINE 1: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
What makes the Holy Spirit significant is in the fact that:
i. The Holy Spirit is the seed of God’s power planted in a believer when such believer is baptised in the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).
ii. The power of the Holy Spirit strengthens believers to witness for Christ.
iii. The fearful and timid Peter was supernaturally fearless and turned to bold preacher. He preached the immovable word of God with power (Acts 2:14-47; Acts 4:10-20).
iv. The Holy Spirit is the consuming fire of God. It is the fire of the Holy Spirit that distinguishes a ‘true believer from false believer (Matt. 3:11-12).
v. The Holy Spirit is the divine wind of God’s Church and the enabling grace behind a fruitful Christian life (Ezek. 37:1-10, 1 Cor. 2:4, Lk. 4:14-18).
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Students should mention the significance of the Holy Spirit in the Church.
LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The ministry of the Holy Spirit, amongst many, includes the following:
i. He quickens our mortal bodies (Rom.8:11). This makes it illegal for any sickness or disease to dwell there; instead He turns it to partakers of God’s divine nature (Matt.3:12; 2 Pet.1:4).
ii. He guides into all truth (Jn.16:12-13) by enlightening the believers’ understanding on all issues of life. He is, therefore, our only insurance against the deadly and enslaving grip of ignorance. By this divine guidance, we will always have solutions to every problem that may confront us.
iii. He reveals things to come. (Acts 21:4, 10-12).
iv. He reminds of things taught (Jn.14:26) especially in the times of need e.g. the Lord Jesus in His encounter with the tempter (Matt. 4:1-4).
v. He reproves the world of sin. The sinner gets conviction not by gimmicks but by the Holy Spirit (Zech.4:6.
vi. He reproves the world of righteousness by making them to live righteous in the of midst a perverse generation (Jn.16:8; Gal.5:22-23).
vii. He reproves the world of judgement (Jn.16:11).
viii. He testifies of the truth, which makes it easier, for a true believer to decree thing, and it is established unto him (Jn.15:26; Job.22:28).
ix. He intercedes for the saints (Rom.8:26-27).
iii. He gives spiritual gifts unto spiritually hungry men and women who earnestly covet them (1 Cor. 12:4,11).
CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Students should share their experience of how the Holy Spirit has helped them in times of need.
SUMMARY: The roles of the Holy Spirit in believers and the Church are so much significant.
CONCLUSION: We need the Holy Spirit to run our Christian race, for without Him, the believers/Church will be worthless.
EVALUATION: How significant is the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer?
CLOSING PRAYER: Father, give me an experience of the manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit.
ASSIGNMENT: Write out five (5) manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the Early Church citing a biblical reference for each point mentioned.

RCCG Sunday School HYMN
- O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest.
