TOPIC: Enemy Of Glory

BIBLE TEXT: Job 1:6-9

6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

MEMORY VERSE: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” – 1 Peter 5:8

LESSON AIM: To reveal to them the enemies of glory.

CENTRAL TRUTH: The devil is an enemy of glory.

INTRODUCTION: The number one glory of our is Satan. A man can a also be enemy of his glory if refuses to cooperate with God. The devil has no regard for man. He wants to do everything possible to hinder us from entering into God’s glory. The bible says he goes to and fro looking for whom to devour .1 Pet.5:8. But thanks be to God who causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus. 2 Cor. 2:14; Col. 2:15.

STUDY GUIDE:

Let us look at our text and consider the life of Job as a case study:

1 When the children of God gathered together, the devil came around also (Job 1.6). Always remember that Satan is the god of this world, he has access to everywhere and everything except areas where God is occupying. Like your “space” (this includes your heart, your body, your work, your domain , your family etc).

2 He goes to and fro, walking down up and down the earth. You want to ask yourself, what is he looking for? Answer is 1 Pet. 5:8.

3 God spoke to Satan about Job. Highlight the good things God said about him in Job 1:8.

4 And because Job feared God, he obtained favour from God. Write out all that God did for him in verse 9.

5 Satan challenged God to leave Job alone for a while and see if Job will not forsake God. Verse 11.

6 God agreed and gave him permission to touch all that he had except his wife. Verse 12.

7 Satan destroyed all that Job had (Job 1:14-19). Job went through a very trying period. But in all this, Job did not stop trusting in God and the bible says the latter end of Job was greater than the beginning (Job 42:12).

DISCUSSION: Discuss practical way we can keep Satan away from us.

INVITATION/APPLICATION: Take time to pray for yourself that Satan will never triumph over you.

CONCLUSION: There is a saying that what is not good needs prayers and what is good needs more prayers even more. Note that Satan is an enemy of your glory. When things begins to go well for a child of God, the devil will want to destroy it. That is why the bible says we should watch and pray. Do not allow the enemy to destroy your relationship with God. We must resist the devil always (James 4:7).
