TOPIC: The Beauty Of God’s Glory

BIBLE TEXT: Mathew 17:1-13

1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,

2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.

10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?

11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

MEMORY VERSE: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty”. – Psalm 91:1

LESSON AIM: To take teens the beauty of His glory.

CENTRAL TRUTH: God’s glory is beautiful beyond description.

INTRODUCTION: The description of the glory of God in our text today shows how beautiful the glory is. The bible says it shines like the sun and it is white as light. How awesome this is. Imagine yourself in a a place like that. It was so awesome that the only thing the disciples could do was to fall on their faces out of reference and fear.

STUDY GUIDE:

The beauty of God’s glory can be seen in:

1. The creation itself. Have you ever sat down to think about and appreciate the beauty of things created by God? Think about the beautiful things around you. Mention some of these beauties. Job 12:7-10, Psalm 19:1.

2. In our text, Peter had an encounter with God’s glory that he didn’t want to leave the place again.

3. The Exodus of the children of Israel from Egypt. Starting from the Passover night, to the cloud of pillar by day and the cloud of pillar by night Ex. 13:21 and on to the parting of the Red sea. Exodus 14:16

4. The death, resurrection and the ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ.

5. In the anyone who has decided to walk with the Lord. Our father in the Lord, Pastor E.A. Adeboye is a perfect example for us.

DISCUSSION:

  1. Mention other people that saw or experienced the beauty of God’s glory in the bible.
  2. Teenagers to describe the most beautiful thing they have ever seen or place they have ever been to or experience they have ever had and let them compare this with the description of the glory of God.

INVITATION/APPLICATION: Do you want to see His glory, then get closer to Him.

CONCLUSION: The beauty of God’s glory can be made manifest in your lives as well. Do not think you are too young to experience God’s glory. If you desire it, you will experience it.

PRAYER: Father, please show me the beauty of your glory.
