Topic: Feeding And Decision Making [Teens Open Heavens 19 January 2021]

Memorise: He will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right. Isaiah 7:15

Read: Isaiah 7:14-16

14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

15 He will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right.

16 But before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.

Bible In One Year: Genesis 44-45; Matthew 14:1-21

MESSAGE:

Food is necessary for growth. According to biology, any child that does not feed well will have a medical condition known as kwashiorkor’. This is characterised by a big head, long thin legs and arms. Such a child can never make good decisions. So, what a fellow feeds on is very important. An adage says “The height a bird can attain is a result of what it feeds on.” In the same vein, a malnourished child of God can be easily identified by the wrong decision he or she makes.

Our memory verse for today tells us the relationship between food and the choices one makes. It says: “Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.” So, the butter and honey believers ought to feed on is the word of God. In fact, to have a balanced diet, you need to add fervent prayer, spirit led worship and fellowship with the brethren. Any child that has these will definitely make good decisions and achieve great things in life because the Holy Spirit will be his or her guide.

Key Point:

Your actions are determined by your spiritual diet.

Hymn 6: Breathe On Me, Breath Of God

  1. Breathe on me, Breath of God;
    Fill me with life anew,
    That I may love what Thou dost love,
    And do what Thou wouldst do.
  2. Breathe on me, Breath of God:
    Until my heart is pure,
    Until with Thee I will one will,
    To do and to endure.
  3. Breathe on me, Breath of God
    Till I am wholly Thine,
    Until this earthly part of me
    Glows with Thy fire divine.
  4. Breathe on me, Breath of God;
    So shall I never die,
    But live with Thee the perfect life
    Of Thine eternity.
