Topic: Bastard Or Son? [Teens Open Heavens 20 January 2021]
Memorise: “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you.” – Hebrews 12:5b
Read: Hebrews 12 5-8
5 And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
6 because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.”
7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?
8 If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons.
Bible In One Year: Genesis 46-48; Matthew 14:22-36
MESSAGE:
Some years ago, we had a week long programme in the USA. God’s presence was strong and His power came down mightily to bless the people. At the end of the programme, we dispersed talking of God’s mighty visitation. When we arrived at the hotel I was lodged in, as I disembarked from the jeep I came in, my hand held on to the front door. So, as the fellow sitting at the passenger seat came down and shut the door, it jammed my hand. I screamed as everyone panicked on realising what had happened. They hurriedly took me to my room. The pain was so much, then, I asked God why? He said that happened because I didn’t thank Him for His mighty visitation at the programme. I thanked Him and immediately, the pain disappeared.
If God does not correct you when you do wrong, it means you are not His child. If you have been doing wrong and it seems you get away without being punished, it could be you are not God’s child. Ask God for mercy today.
Prayer Point:
Father, please don’t stop correcting me when I do wrong.
Hymn 20: When We Walk With The Lord
- 1 we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
- Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey. - Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey. - But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows,
For the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey. - Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
