Topic: Samson [Teens Open Heavens 25 January 2021]

Memorise: Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had left him. Judges 16:20

Read: Judges 13:1-8

1 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD , so the LORD delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.

2 A certain man of Zorah, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was sterile and remained childless.

3 The angel of the LORD appeared to her and said, “You are sterile and childless, but you are going to conceive and have a son.

4 Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean,

5 Because you will conceive and give birth to a son. No razor may be used on his head, because the boy is to be a Nazirite, set apart to God from birth, and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”

6 Then the woman went to her husband and told him, “A man of God came tome. He looked like an angel of God, very awesome. I didn’t ask him where he came from, and he didn’t tell me his name.

7 But he said to me, ‘You will conceive and give birth to a son. Now then, drink no wine or other fermented drink and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a Nazirite of God from birth until the day of his death.’ “

8 Then Manoah prayed to the LORD : “O Lord , I beg you, let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born.”

Bible In One Year: Exodus 8; Matthew 17:16-27

MESSAGE:

Samson was born at a time when the children of Israel needed a saviour to deliver them from the hands of their enemies the Philistines. His purpose in Life therefore was to judge his people and deliver them from bondage. He tried to fulfil this purpose, he would have but for one thing. You may be familiar with how Samson ended. You might even be one of those who think Delilah was Samson’s downfall. On the contrary, Samson’s downfall was caused by Samson himself through indiscipline.

Samson’s problem started long before he met Delilah. In Judges 14:1-2, Samson lusted after a lady – a Philistine who was an enemy and insisted on marrying her against his parents advice. He married her and had no peace until she died. Many children of God are undisciplined in speech and actions. Any attitude you cannot control can ruin your glorious destiny. There is a reason God created you: you have a destiny to Fulfil. Therefore, don’t allow any form of indiscipline hinder you from fulfilling your destiny.

Reflection:

What are the acts of indiscipline you exhibit?

Hymn 7: Christian, Seek Not Yet Repose

  1. Christian, seek not yet repose
    Hear thy gracious Savior say;
    Thou art in the midst of foes:
    Watch and pray.
  2. Principalities and power
    Mustering their unseen array
    Wait for the unguarded hours:
    Watch and pray
  3. Gird the heavenly armor on,
    Wear it ever night and day;
    Ambushed lies the evil one:
    Watch and pray.
  4. Hear the victors who o’ercame,
    Still they mark each warrior’s way;
    All with one sweet voice exclaim,
    Watch and pray.
  5. Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
    Him thou loves to obey;
    Hide within thy heart His word:
    Watch and pray.
  6. Watch, as if on that alone
    Hung the issue of the day;
    Pray, that help may be sent down:
    Watch and pray.
