TOPIC: CHRISTIAN UNITY
READ: EPHESIANS 2:16-22 (NKJV)

16. and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.
17. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near.
18. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
19. Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,
20. having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner[stone,]
21. in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
22. in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

THE MESSAGE:

Today’s reading reminds us that Christ is the source of Christian unity; the Chief Cornerstone of the Holy Temple – the body of Christ. It shows us how Christ removed the barriers of sin and offences separating us from God and from one another; how He reconciled us not only to God but also to all who were hitherto our enemies. By His death on the cross, the enmity with God and His people died and we have become friends and united with God and with all people under the banner of Christ.

Shall we make void this Christian unity which Christ purchased with His precious blood? No! Shall we recreate the barriers of separation between us and God and continue to live in enmity with Him by committing secret sins? No! Shall we continue to live in unforgiveness, discrimination, acrimony and rancour with people whom Christ has enjoined us to live with in peace and unity? No! If your answers are No!, like mine, let us pray.

PRAYER: Almighty God, please forgive me all past sins as I forgive those who sinned against me, and grant me the grace to uphold Christian unity all the days of my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
