TOPIC: GRACE UPON GRACE

READ: JOHN 1: 14-18 (NKJV)

1:14. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

1:15. John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ “

1:16. And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.

1:17. For the law was given through Moses, [but] grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

1:18. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared [Him.]

THE MESSAGE:

In Colossians 1:19, Paul tells us that “In him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things….” Our meditation yesterday showed that those who believe and receive Him have been given the right to become children of God. It is within the privilege of this same acceptance as God’s family member that we now have the right to draw grace upon grace on a daily basis from the fullness in Christ.

So, in Christ Jesus dwells the totality of the wisdom, the power and the love of God. William Barclay puts it so well when he said, “A man can go to Jesus with any need and find that need supplied. A man can go to Jesus with any ideal and find that ideal realized…. In Jesus, the man to whom life is the search for knowledge will find the supreme revelation. In Jesus, the man who needs courage will find the pattern and the secret of being brave. In Jesus, the man who feels that he cannot cope with life will find the Master of life and the power to live. In Jesus, the man who is conscious of his sin will find the forgiveness for his sin and the strength to be good.” Jesus, the Word, became flesh and dwelt among us, so that in Him and through Him, we may receive the fullness of life!

PRAYER: Lord, help me draw from Your grace.
