TOPIC: ALWAYS LEARN TO GIVE THANKS

READ: LUKE 17:11-19 (NKJV)

17:11. Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

17:12. Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off.

17:13. And they lifted up [their] voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

17:14. So when He saw [them,] He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.

17:15. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God,

17:16. and fell down on [his] face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.

17:17. So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where [are] the nine?

17:18. “Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”

17:19. And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”

THE MESSAGE:

In our text today, ten men who had been suffering from leprosy, lifted their voices and cried for mercy. Evidently the reason for the cry was to be healed of their disease. The Lord, heard their cry and told them, “… go, show yourself to the priest” (verse 14). Although there was no immediate change on their skin, they obeyed and took a step of faith. While on their way, they were cleansed from their leprosy. Now, when one of them, a

Samaritan, saw that he was healed, he returned and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down at Jesus’ feet, giving Him thanks. Jesus reacted by asking ‘… were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any of them who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”(verses 17&18). Then Jesus said to the man,“Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you whole” (verse 19). The man went away not only healed of his leprosy but also completely made free from all forms of sicknesses.

Beloved, God expects us to give thanks always; this is His will for us in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Like the nine other lepers in our text, many people pray hard to receive miracles and after they get what they desire, they never think it wise to come back and give thanks. Such people are considered ingrates. When God shows us His favour, He expects us to appreciate Him. Thanksgiving must become our attitude. Even when we don’t know what to say in our place of prayer, we can just keep thanking God. The more we thank Him, the greater our blessings will be. A grateful heart to God will remain ever fresh in His goodness. Thanksgiving makes God happy with us. Learn to give Him thanks cheerfully in all situations today.

PRAYER: O God, I thank You for all You have done for me.
